Press Release: Tallgrass Brewing Co. Reboots A Fan Favorite
Posted Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 by Tip Top

Tallgrass Pub AleManhattan, KS – Pub Ale is the latest beer from Tallgrass Brewing Company, but you can’t call it a new beer. It’s the same dark brown ale that launched the brewery in 2007, and the recipe goes back even farther to the homebrewing days of Tallgrass’s founder.

“The recipe for Pub Ale was a ‘happy accident’ from my homebrew days. I created it with ingredients I happened to have on hand one day when I was brewing with my twin daughters. It tasted so good it became the first beer we brewed under the Tallgrass name and it was the first keg of beer we ever sold,” says Jeff Gill, Tallgrass Founder.

Although Ale was a popular brand, its production was slowly scaled back and eventually reduced to “draft only” status last year to make room for the brewing of other brands, but Ale fans would not let the brand die.

“As soon as we started to cut back on production, we started to hear from our Ale fans. People tell me they can’t find another ale that tastes as good,” says Gill. “That made me feel good, but guilty, so I knew we had to bring it back.”

The decision was made in late 2012 to relaunch the brand and the name of the beer was changed from Tallgrass Ale to Pub Ale in order to better identify the style of the beer and reflect its roots in the great tradition of rich English pub ales. The can was redesigned with the new name and given a “retro” classic 60′s beer look.

The beer is a traditional mild brown ale made from the exact same 2007 recipe. A blend of four specialty grains and malted 2-Row barley gives the Ale a smooth character, lightly sweet flavor, and just a hint of chocolate, or as the new can states it: A fine brown ale with rich and mild flavors to win friends and influence enemies.

“I love to drink this beer. It has a special place in my heart. I’m glad to see it back on the shelf,” says Gill.

Tallgrass Pub Ale is expected to be on shelves, in most areas, in the first half of March.

Tallgrass Brewing Company was started in Manhattan, Kansas, in 2007, by Jeff Gill and his wife, Tricia. In May of 2010 Tallgrass declared its “Canifesto” and began packaging exclusively in cans. Tallgrass’s products include Pub Ale, IPA, Buffalo Sweat Stout, Oasis, Velvet Rooster, Halcyon Unfiltered Wheat, and 8-Bit Pale Ale. Tallgrass Beers are available in cans and on tap in 14 states.
