Saranac Brewery Joins The Craft Can Revolution
Posted Wednesday, July 31st, 2013 by Tip Top

Saranac White IPA CanUTICA, N.Y. — Customers asked and F.X. Matt Brewing Company delivered – several Saranac favorites are now available in cans.

Saranac Pale Ale, White IPA, Blueberry Blonde, and Shandy are ready for your next adventure in travel-friendly cans.

Saranac, celebrating 125 years of brewing this year, boasts state-of-the-art canning operations on site. With flexibility for both 12- or 16-ounce can options, this innovative canning line ensures the same high-quality taste as a bottle.

“Our canning operations allow us to give our customers the same distinctive taste as the bottle alternative,” said company President Fred Matt. “The four most-exciting things about our cans are that they preserve the beer by protecting it from light; take less energy to produce, ship and recycle; have a taste-free liner; and keep more oxygen out with a tighter seal.”

“A lot of people claim they can taste the metal when beer is canned, “ Fred said. “But these four facts reinforce that our can packages are of the best quality, and the flavors are just as robust and drinkable as in our bottles or kegs.”

As a special thank you to customers, a bonus pint of canned Legacy IPA will also be available for a limited time in specially marked 125th Anniversary Celebration packages of Pale Ale, Trail Mix and White IPA.

About the Beers

Legacy IPA: Inspired by their founder’s original recipe for one of the first American IPAs, this beer features a blend of historic, traditional, and innovative hops for a heavenly aroma and full-bodied flavor. Pair it with curry, Thai, dry rubbed ribs, jerk chicken or pork, and Stilton, aged cheddar, and Gorgonzola cheeses. (60 IBUs and 6.5 percent ABV)

Pale Ale: A Saranac staple, this beer recently took gold in the pale ale category at the 2013 United States Open Beer Championship.  This was the first competition Pale Ale was entered in after the brewery recently updated the brewing process for this classic favorite. Their new “Hop Infusion Process” maximizes beer to hop exposure for a fresher taste.  This well-balanced beer has a crisp finish. Pair it with burgers, bread pudding, and cheddar cheese. (32 IBUs and 5.5 percent ABV)

White IPA: Orange peel and coriander pair with wheat malt and oats for a refreshing twist on the traditional IPA. Pair it with spicy foods, citrus salads, and bleu cheese. (50 IBUs and 6 percent ABV)

Blueberry Blonde Ale: More than a hint of blueberries, but just enough to leave you wanting more. Brewed to be light and refreshing, this is the perfect thirst quenching beer for warm weather days. Pair it with fresh seafood, salads, and Chevre cheese. (5 percent ABV)

Shandy: It doesn’t get more refreshing than real lemon juice, sugar and water to make actual lemonade. And when mixed with a light lager, it’s the best interpretation of this popular European tradition, hands down. Pair it with light summer foods, BBQ, key lime pie, and feta cheese. (4.2 percent ABV)

Moylan’s Introduces New ‘Therapy Session IPA’
Posted Wednesday, July 31st, 2013 by Tip Top

MoylansNovato, CA. – Like any true IPA fanatic, both Moylan’s Brewery and Marin Brewing Company want to make this Thursday (August 1st), a National IPA Day to remember.

Just in time for IPA Day, Moylan’s Brewery announced today their newest release – the Therapy Session IPA. New Brewmaster, Derek Smith, was looking to create the perfect IPA for those who want their hops fix but don’t need the high alcohol content that usually comes with it. The Therapy Session IPA has a 4.5% ABV but all the hoppy flavor and kick of your more potent IPAs. The Therapy Session IPA uses a blend of Galaxy, Centennial, and Simcoe hops along with Araomatic, Caravienne, and Munich malts.

Brewmaster Derek Smith commented, “The Therapy Session IPA is perfect for the hotter days of summer. The lower ABV allows you to enjoy a couple of pints on a hot day without the fear of falling off your barstool. Late kettle additions of Galaxy and Centennial hops provide plenty of fruity overtones in the beer, most notably: peach, mango, and orange. It makes for a wonderful IPA and a great beer to enjoy on IPA Day.”

Marin Brewing Company is also celebrating IPA Day in style. Marin Brewing Company favorites like Marin IPA and Three Flowers IPA will be on tap at the local-favorite brewery and restaurant, but Brewmaster Arne Johnson is marking the occasion with a twist to his classic Marin IPA by adding a new flavor addition of Simcoe hops and 30% less Crystal malt for a more hop-forward kick.

Owner of both Marin Brewing Company and Moylan’s Brewery, Brendan Moylan, is enthusiastic for IPA Day, commenting, “Many of our customers are big IPA fans and both Moylan’s and Marin Brewing Company have some fantastic IPAs. We hope IPA enthusiasts come out and celebrate with us at both Moylan’s and Marin Brewing Company come Thursday.”

Ninkasi Parallel 49 Red EyeThe International Collaboration is Now Available Exclusively in Bottles in Vancouver, British Columbia

EUGENE, Ore.—Ninkasi Brewing Company  announces its first international collaboration with Parallel 49 Brewing Co. of Vancouver, British Columbia. Red Eye, a red rye lager, is now available exclusively in 22-ounce (650mL) bottles in Vancouver.

First meeting at the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference in Washington, D.C. this past March, founding brewers Graham With of Parallel 49 and Jamie Floyd of Ninkasi began talking, and, as the story goes, a collaboration was immediately born.

“We both possess the same mindset when it comes to our beer,” explains With. “Drinkable, hoppy West Coast beers are what we love.”

With two powerful brewing minds at work, With and Floyd landed on a red rye lager and began brewing during Vancouver Craft Beer Week in June at Parallel 49. “I’m a big fan of doing different takes on lagers, so we decided to do a hopped-up version,” says With.

“We had a great day brewing together, filled with laughter, learning about each other and our breweries,” explains Floyd. “The spirit of camaraderie in the craft beer industry really came through that day.”

The final result? A brew that is citrusy and hoppy with a crisp finish. And the name? Well, that was inspired by the real sign of a successful night. It isn’t 20/20 hindsight – it’s red eyes!

Green Flash Brewing Introduces Triple IPA, Green Bullet
Posted Wednesday, July 31st, 2013 by Tip Top

Green Flash Green BulletSan Diego, CA – Named after a super robust New Zealand hop, Green Flash Brewing Co. announces the national debut of Green Bullet™ Triple IPA that the brewery will release in September, with availability through December.

It was after exploring New Zealand hops when Chuck first developed the beer to commemorate the brewery’s 9th anniversary in 2011. Green Bullet has since developed a cult-like following reminiscent of another Green Flash knockout, Palate Wrecker™. The buzz and accolades for Green Bullet have prompted Green Flash to introduce this distinctly well-balanced triple IPA nationally in bottle and on draft.

“While looking for new and unique hops for our 9th Anniversary brew, I turned my focus to New Zealand and discovered a hop called Green Bullet,” explains Chuck. “Given Green Bullet’s brightly floral, piney, pungent, and spicy characteristics, it seemed almost tailor-made for Green Flash. Further exploration in the region lead me to discover the fruity Pacific Gem hop. With a balanced blend of two New Zealand hops, Green Bullet is an extremely well-rounded and quaffable triple IPA.”

“Our fans flipped over Green Bullet, when it was our 9th Anniversary ale,” says Green Flash Co-Founder and CEO, Mike Hinkley. “We have made a few small draft batches since 2011 to serve in the tasting room and it is always a big hit. This fall, Green Bullet will be available in bottles for the first time and everyone is eager to get their hands on some, myself included!”

Green Bullet is full bodied with a soft pine and citrus hoppiness upfront, tropical notes of mango and pineapple, and a moderately aggressive dry and bitter finish. It is a remarkably well-balanced for such a potent brew at 10.1% ABV, 100 IBUs. Green Bullet™ will be available in 4-packs of 12oz bottles, 22-ozers and on draft nationally beginning in September, with availability through the end of 2013.
