Randalizer
« on: June 27, 2009, 07:26:49 PM »
I just came across this.  Has anyone seen one before?  If so, what are your thoughts?  I think I might have to go give it a try tonight.

If you've never heard of a Randalizer or "Randall the Enamel Animal" as it's formally known, it's basically a organoleptic hop transducer module (a hop cone filter) that grabs the oils off the hops in the Randall on the way from the keg to the tap/faucet transferring all the hoppy goodness into the beer, providing a pungent and fresh hop boost to the selected beer.

Haha yeah, those obviously aren't my words.  My description would have been: its shiny and there's hops in there.

I have seen Sam use this at GABF, but the line was so long I never tried it.  Seems like it worked.

Randalls are cool.  Our local beer bar chain has 2 of them, and they get pulled out pretty regularly.

They've done 60, 90, & 120 all through the Randall (120 once through both at once), plus Expedition, Brooklyn BCS, And DFH WWS through one filled with coffee.  Good times.

I've seen the Randall show up at the Great Taste at least two of the three years I've been.  I love hops... I love the Randall.   :bye:

I've had beer through a Randall on a number of occasions.  Tyler's Taproom in NC does Tuesday Hoppy Hour with DFH 90 Min through one.  Barley John's has one and one of the guys with a local distributor built one for the Muddy Pig's Festival of Hops.  Always been pretty good stuff through them.

Sam from DFH got stopped by airport security and questioned in an interrogation room when he tried to bring it on board a plane.

Here's the story about Randall and DFH inventing it.

Inline cartridge water filter filled with hop cones.

I got absolutely destroyed by Randallized DFH 90 at a beer fest once.  A friend dropped a "guess what's going on at home" personal life bomb on me mid-fest, my mind went *pop* and a whole bunch of beer later it was *ovah.*

I'm thinking about constructing one for my kegerator.

You should check the BYO article on Randalls. They had a method of building one that helped reduce the foam it causes. I believe it's called the Hopinator from the December 2008 issue.
