***OFFICIAL*** Beer Talk thread - for talking about beers
« on: January 07, 2013, 03:34:27 PM »
since it doesn't seem like there's ever a lot of activity in the Beer News thread:

"...btw... the Sucks WILL become a year-round brew and when it does it will be in a 32oz bomber (think of it as a mini growler), but things are going a little slow for that because the glass company is dragging its ass on getting the bottle ready for us. I have read that some here think that a 32oz bottle is stoopid, but then we already have a beer called Stoopid, so I'm cool with that... lol...... "

also:

"New Enjoy your two formats of Ruination! I will be putting the Sucks in multiple formats, 32oz mini-growlers and 15.5 gal kegs, prolly 7.25 gallon kegs too (both of which will yeild 16oz pints!)... and of course there'll be full-sized growlers.

In structuring a brand I am careful to give more than a little thought to how I want to present it and to what end. Notice that we don't do cans. I suppose that some would say that brewers should put every flavor they brew in every package possible to gain as many sales as possible from as many peeps as possible, but isn't that the kind of crap that BIG brewers get into? How about a 24-pack, no- how about a 30-pack suitcase of aluminum cans of Sucks? Why not both?

I just plain think that a 32oz bottle of Sucks next to the 32oz bottle of King Cobra sounds like fun.

...call me stoopid...

Cheers all.... "

Love sucks, but I really hate this 32oz bottle nonsense.  For a beer like that you might want to drink multiples of the 12 oz bottle is ideal, IMO.  Granted, a 32oz bottle is probably good for most occasions since it is just 2 pints of beer.  I would just prefer to be able to drink 12, 24, or 36 ounces of it without worrying about a portion of it getting flat in a half consumed bottle.  Not to mention, it will have to be a twist off to really be a useful type of mini-growler.

I don't hate it, and I agree that it will be funny to see it sitting next to the Cobra, but I'm not going to buy it very often at that size.

If its the same price per oz. I dont see what the issue is... Pretty hard to drink "just one" Sucks. Will likely still drink my weight in it. :coffee:

I'll just wait for distribution to make it to Kentucky and get it by the keg.  Hell, I would drive to Nashville to get a keg of Sucks if that was necessary.

I'd prefer 12 oz bottles, but I'd buy either.  Still waiting for Lagunitas here in Indy :kickrock:

Haven't seen it on the shelves here yet this year, dammit.  But I did just find Sculpin yesterday!

Is there a bottling date on those?  I love the beer but don't want to gamble at ~16$/6.

We're just getting it in Austin and I'm hoping that they bottle or package date as well.

Ballast Point: Uses a best before date. Ex.: BE293/03302. BE = Big Eye, 293 = Batch, 03302 is the best before (Mar. 30, 2012). All of our ales and lagers under 10% ABV have an enjoy by date that is 120 days from the moment it touches our bottling line. Our ales and lagers that are over 10% ABV have an enjoy by date of 1 year.

Furley, I agree that often there isn't enough beer talk around here.  Sometimes it happens in the What Beer Are You Drinking Thread though.

Lately, I have been drinking mostly homebrew with some other stuff sprinkled in.  This is likely the way it will go until I drink down my cellar more.  I'd like to get a bit better homebrewing and trial and error is a big way to do that.  Can't brew it without drinking it.  I've only drank 3 beers that I didn't brew so far this year, and all of those were because I was out of the house.

when i'm reading that thread i wonder to myself how many others are doing the same?  occassionally there's a question asked or a short conversation but it tends to get lost in the shuffle.

lots of times i want to find out more about a particular beer but don't want to start a separate thread (shocking, i know  ) and quoting the post just gets buried/missed.

I hear you.  I read that thread more to talk about the beers if something comes to me than anything, but that's probably because that's how the FBGs thread was.  I agree that there aren't that many that read it to talk about beers.

Take that bourbon talk to the liquor thread!

I had another Schlafly Tasmanian IPA last night, which is easily one of my favorite new beers.  Urban Chestnut Zwickel is probably tied for first.

I have not had anything from Atwater since the bottle bombs, infected mess that they offered several years ago.  I had assumed they would fizzle out but I see they have a new branding and are back in Chicago.  Has anyone tried any or heard anything about them lately?

I haven't had anything for a long time either.  They showed up here in MN about a year ago, but I've steered clear based on history.

I am going to drink a beer tonight.  I may use a small glass so I can say that I drank beers with an "s".

UPDATE: I did not drink any beers last night. (I did have a bourbon though)
