I was hoping this would land in VA.  :kickrock:  Not that I really expected it.

http://beerpulse.com/2012/08/sierra-nevada-narwhal-imperial-stout-release-pushed-back-to-october/

Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout will be the next release in the brewery’s “High Altitude” series of limited 4-packs. It will follow the currently-available Hoptimum Imperial IPA and be replaced by Bigfoot Barleywine in early 2013, This will be Bigfoot’s first appearance in 4-packs. Pricing and distribution for Narwhal should be identical to Hoptimum.

Sierra Nevada
At last. Here's to Celebration season! (If you're near Chico, join us for a Celebration release party this Tuesday at 6 p.m. in our Taproom. No cover, live music and great beer.)

Celebration begins shipping this week, reaching most folks before the Thanksgiving holiday. Cheers, all.

http://beerstreetjournal.com/sierra-nevada-barrel-aged-bigfoot-release-looms/

Over a beer with Sierra Nevada brewer Terrance Sullivan earlier this year, he told me about plans to release a barrel aged edition of Bigfoot in 2012. The North Carolina build tentatively pushed this release into 2013, but the plans remain intact. Sierra obtained a mixture of whiskey barrels (Jack Daniels, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam) for this project. 750 is the bottle size and the labels are painted.

Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Style: Barleywine (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

http://beerpulse.com/2012/12/sierra-nevada-barrel-aged-bigfoot-barleywine-slated-for-late-january/

(Chico, CA) – If you follow BeerPulse closely, you may have seen a number of label approvals come through from Sierra Nevada Brewing for some barrel-aged beers. Some folks asked about them on Beer Advocate and Product Development Manager, Bill Manley, chimed in with some information. Below, see some of his (excerpted) answers.

There won’t be any Barrel-aged Narwhal in large distribution. We made 15Bbls as a pilot batch and put that into bourbon barrels. It will be draught only, but probably limited to high-end festivals and such. Barrel-aged Dubbel and Quad are Chico-only releases in the bottle, and limited draught has made it outside of Chico and is out there now…Again VERY limited.

Barrel-Aged Bigfoot will be packaged in the next two weeks and we need to give it a month to bottle-condition (12.2 ABV!) so we’re looking for a late January release. Again, this is also super limited 100Bbls…some states are only getting a handful of cases so this one is definitely going to go really fast.

Most states will be getting some (depending on ABV caps…sorry Ohio) but most states will not be getting much.

There are multiple types of barrels. Mostly bourbon, some Tennessee Whisky, some rye and some single-malt scotch in the final to-market blend.

The bulk of our bourbon barrows are heaven Hill but we have Jim Beam brands in there too, as well as some Buffalo Trace as well. We’re promiscuous with barrels, typically we don’t do single-barrel bottlings due to the volume, but occasionally we’ll do one-off beers in single barrel… We did a Tripel in Pappy barrels a few years back.

Manley also said that the annual Celebration Ale would be replaced for 2010 (because of the 30th anniversary beer) with a still to be determined style.

This is an error on the part of the article's author. We are NOT...in no way...ever...going to replace Celebration Ale.

We are going to change Anniversary Ale in the fall of 2010. There will still be a beer in that spot, but we haven't ironed out all of the details yet.

Cheers!

Now I work with Bill.  Wouldn't have guessed that would happen in a million years.
