I enjoyed this the one time I went, but primarily because it rained during the Friday session, and apparently, Californians melt in the rain, so it was very easy to get most any beer quickly and without a lot of elbowing.  Saturday, I saw what it is usually like.  They really need a bigger space for it.  Much bigger fan of the Portland Holiday Ale Fest (usually same weekend) because crowds really aren't an issue the first few day.

Yea...we mapped it out, but we were pretty beat from our work during the day. We ended up at Port both nights and I practically bathed in hops both nights.  Between their wet/fresh hops and regular ipas, they had like 6 different types of their hoppy beers on tap plus their coffee porter.  they also had Bear Republic Racer X and Apex flowing.  Ridiculous.

Damn, I didn't even get a Wild Bear and I live in Austin. I was in SD when it came out. The Figgy Wood'n is reallllly nice, probably my second favorite TX wild next to their Fortuna Roja.

I'm not on the beer sites all that much right now so I hadnt heard about it but one of my many Houston trading partners texted me about some rare (not Freetail rare) sour from 512. He said that Houston got something like 5 cases of it. He's a good trading partner to know, especially since a case of Perfect Storm showed up for him today and he said I can take a bottle out before forwarding the box.

The Axe Head was one of a few malt liquors that I grabbed while in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago. And it meets the criteria for the festival, minus the ale part. This was also a fine selection from the Twin Cities:

I guess I misunderstood. I thought your commenting on my picture meant that you were going to be at the festival. Oh well, I tried.

On the subject of the festival, that was too much fun. I did VIP session and stuck around for most of the evening. I made it out of there with a decent amount of sobriety but once we went next door and discovered Hoppy Birthday on tap things degenerated quickly. 3 pitchers of Hoppy Birthday, a pitcher of Hakunama Ta Tas, a pitcher of Kung Fu Elvis and a bottle of Civil Disobedience 1 all split 6 ways along with an equally drunk unclejimbo, longbeachbum, and handful of other hooligans (no relation to a certain public figure beloved in these parts) made for an even more entertaining couple of hours.

To the guy that messaged me a couple days ago, sorry we didnt meet. Maybe next year if you're out here.

Just got the rare Friday night off and VIP tix. Not expecting the kind of list that was around with Nickel and Bagby organizing, but I will be very glad to be off and drinking on a Friday. Very glad indeed.
