Batch 8000 is already made (in the process) and I hear it is a Grand Cru (unconfirmed).

John told Hohenstein's (our Bell's Dist around these parts) that he will take as much as a pallet of this.

I know beagle has heard different, but the distributor here has told liquor stores to plan on end of July or the very beginning of August for this one.

Yeah, I didn't take the bartender's word.. he seemed kinda clueless. He said Early Fall, which sounded silly for the style of brew. I hope it comes soon.

If they are correct with the style with Floris (lambic), I wouldn't think Bell's would do it. But heaven knows what Larry and Co. have up their sleeves.

Older news (month or so)...

Bell's Announces Expansion. Bell's Brewery, Inc. has just announced a five million dollar expansion. Now the second largest in the Midwest, will increase its capacity to meet future growth by spending $5 million to expand and upgrade its Comstock operation. The investment includes six 200-barrel fermenters, one 400-barrel fermenter, a 10,000 square foot warehouse with an energy-efficient green roof, a new keg line with the capacity to fill 280 kegs per hour and the purchase of 13,000 new kegs. Nine acres of additional land was also purchased for future expansion. The new equipment and space will allow the brewery to produce 140,000 barrels per year. This comes on the heels of improvements to the downtown Kalamazoo location, at 355 East Kalamazoo Avenue, which included the opening of a new general store. “We wouldn't be making this kind of capital investment if we weren't confident about the appeal of our beer and the abilities of our team,” noted company founder and president Larry Bell. “People continue to reward us for crafting beer with genuine personality. Sometimes it's bold, sometimes it's nuanced, but it's always inspired brewing - original and uniquely Bell's.” Bell added that he anticipated production of 90,000 barrels this year, up from 57,000 barrels in 2005. “It's incumbent upon us to provide the inventory that our partners need. Rather than make small improvements, we're taking a big step so we can do that comfortably and buying additional land so we can continue to grow in the future, “said Bell. “The last few years have been terrific for us and it's obvious that Americans are gaining an ever greater appreciation for beer with real flavor.” For more information about Bell's Brewery and its brands, visit their new website at www.bellsbeer.com.

Straight from Larry Bell's mouth at BA:

"These new label filings you see are not because we are planning to bottle these beers, but rather so that we can get these brands registered for draft sales in other states. Debs' and the Smoked Stout will be part of the 28 Bell's beers on tap next week in Ohio for a promotional night and we had to do the legal work first. The new bottlings we DO plan are mostly for Chicagoland-Kalamazoo Porter, Kalamazoo Royal Amber Ale, Kalamazoo Unfiltered American Wheat Ale and Kalamazoo Hopsoulution Ale.
We are also working on a bourbon barrel bottling."

You can only get it on tap... so no, not the only place. They had/have it at Bell's. It isn't bottled, just draft. So it may be avail. this summer at the pre-taste event.

Bell’s will be producing a special hopbomb just for the Chicago area in the next month. It is called Kalamazoo Hopsoulution Ale and it will be made with 100% Smagard hops from Germany. There should be about 700 cases available at release and it will be in 24 bottle loose packed cases.(no six packs) Also, we are very close to signing a contract for the north side of the city up to the Cook County line.
Kalamazoo Unfiltered American Wheat Ale will soon be available in Illinois, as well as bottles of Kalamazoo Amber and Porter.    3/20/2008 10:20:51 PM

So they could get out from underneath a particularly smarmy distributor.

so they got out of the contract and re-entered Illinois by using a different label?

why can't they re-enter as Bell's with a different contract? Is Kalamazoo an LLC?

from Ratebeer:

Crap.  I just promised not to spend a lot of money on beer in the next few months.  Hmmm.  How to get around this...

I need to get ahold of some of these, don't know if I can make it to Chicago before the middle of May though...

Yes.

The distributor owns the rights to their products for x years.  "Bell's" could not distribute in Illinois through anyone else.

Distributors are way more trouble than they're worth. We need to get some beer nerds in a position to pass bills into law, getting rid of their tight grip on the beer market.
