This beer seems to have held up extremely well over time. The pour was a deep mahogany with ruby hues in the light. The smell came off the glass in much the same fashion as the 1929 Prince's ale but not nearly as pungent. More dark fruit, some molasses and caramel and the odd medicinal/spiced rum combo. The taste was of soft tobacco with some dark chocolate notes. An interesting leathery taste exists too, the best I can describe it. It reminded me of roasted chestnut in some ways. The spiciness subsided as it warmed up and mellowed out substantially. Nice mouthfeel, thick but not cloying. This was easily one of the best (and biggest surprises) of the night as far as taste goes.
Just got the most recent addition to my cellar and the oldest beer in there to date: Bass 1902 King's Ale Pint sized, silver foil/cork packaging. More info can be found on the history of the bottles here: http://www.mpeterson.co.uk/kings.htmI've had the chance to drink/review this beer about a year ago at a tasting which sent me on my own quest to acquire one.QuoteThis beer seems to have held up extremely well over time. my head was buried in shuke's tits.
TITS help you hit home runs.
How did you acquire it? Did you purchase it from the site you linked? Nice addition!
I need to ask...?
Shouldn't you have a picture of yourself with that beer?

I ended up drinking 9 times my body weight in beer, broke three glasses over my head, 7 over others, ordered up 17 hookers for a little afterparty, held a cabbie hostage while running his cab through the Madison capitol doors, and I grabbed gator's ass.
Just bought one of these after being shot down many times by ebay snipers. I did, however, miss a bottle of Thomas Hardy 150th anniv by some snipers. Very pissed about that one, as it is my all time favorite.

There are several on ebay right now. Buy it now ranging from 80-95 pounds, with 35 pound shipping. Yeah, I don't want another bottle that much. I prefer to spend under $100.

My bottle just arrived from the UK.
I finally got around to joining this site. I must have missed when you opened that bottle (I assume you said something about it on Facebook). How did it compare to the one we drank? I have yet to open any of my other bottles and am curious if the first one was indicative of them in general or not. Cheers!
I hate people.

If he didn't insure it, then that's on him. He has an obligation to fulfill his end of the transaction. HE is the one who hired the shipping company. He heeds to have them take care of him but that has nothing to do with his obligation to you. You are entitled to a full refund, in a timely manner.

I must have missed when you opened that bottle (I assume you said something about it on Facebook). How did it compare to the one we drank? I have yet to open any of my other bottles and am curious if the first one was indicative of them in general or not. Cheers!Howdy Will! I have a ROYAL CELEBRATION ALE , 29TH JULY 1981 brewed by Hook Norton headed my way. Hey Bil! Good to see you here, and sorry I didn't respond to your post above, didn't see it until now! That was my own bottle that I got about a year after my initial tasting with Will. It was great No problem. I saw a couple more bottles of that beer on Ebay and I lost out on both. Man, the price is sky rocketting! Yah they're starting to get up there. I grabbed mine for a reasonable price but there was someone selling two bottles on there with reserve prices that were ridiculous. They're not as rare as some people think it seems! It's funny though. Sometimes people aren't paying attention and bottles of the King's Ale go pretty cheap. Other times the price is dear. Just depends on the luck of the draw, I guess. That Royal Celebration sounds good. I hadn't had an older beer in a while and then for the heck of it drank a Courage Silver Jubilee Ale a couple weeks ago. I do love the way those things taste.I just won a bottle on Ebay...again. Hopefully I'll actually get the bottle this time. Well, I got the box and...it smelled like beer. Yep, the bottle broke on the way to me. I give up on Bass King's Ale. Did they pack it well? Mine came in a styrofoam single bottle shipper.Yep, it was well packed and it still defied the odds. Me and Bass King's Ale aren't meant for each other, I guess.Well, that's stinky, Bill. If you're ever in the area let me know and I'd be happy to open a bottle with you.
