***OFFICIAL*** pics of your brewery thread
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:45:31 AM »
I pretty much just want to see more pics of Smellysell's electric set up, but I am always curious how others brew as well.  Now's your chance to show off your setup, I'll start off with a couple photos of my mostly ghetto, mobile "brewery" from a recent garage brew day.  These are all camera phone pics, so bear with me:

Gear and stuff while mashing (note the brewbox, which makes the mobile part a lot easier):

My personal brewing setup is just a cooler mash tun, burner, and kettle... nothing fancy.  My buddies 10gal setup that we brew together on it pretty sweet so I'll take a pic of that one next time we brew  ;)

Fried one of my SSRs last night somehow, so now it's even more in shambles.

Just waiting on some stuff to dry and I'll be back up and running.  I'll put some pictures up tomorrow.

Last summer at the family reunion I spoke with my uncle about building a 3 tier gravity brew tower.  Several weeks later I mailed him some drawings (no email or cell phone) expecting him to put together some material costs and give me an idea on labor.  I've been meaning to give him a call, but I only seem to remember when I'm in a meeting or it is already too late (time zones).

Today I get an envelope in the mail with some photos of the finished product.  It is exactly what I wanted.  Now I just have to figure out how to get it down here.

Three Tier Tower with adjustable burner ready shelves, fold-up legs for transportation and storage, and leveling feet:

Finally got my brew tower in my grubby mitts.  Here are a few more pics.  I'll do a dry run this weekend, put the kettles and mash tun on it, adjust the shelves, figure out where I'm going to put it and level it.

How high is that top shelf?  Looks like you'd have to use a ladder to access it.

It's set at about 5'4".  So yeah, if I needed to stir or anything, I would need a ladder.  Since it is just for the Hot Liquor Tank it won't need much attention throughout brewing.  I'm going to add a thermometer and sight glass to the HLT, and a hooked nozzle to the hose to fill it.

why not make that one your (direct fired) mash tun, and make the cooler your HLT?

Mostly out of habit, i guess.  I'm pretty comfortable with the process using the cooler Mash Tun.  The set-up is pretty flexible and I do pretty much whatever with it, so I may try that eventually.

Haven't got to that yet.  Trying to get the kegerator finished.  I've just used a cheap burner from Academy Sports in the past.  I think with the parts that come with that, I can cut the wind skirt and burner mount from the top of the assembly and use the feet as brackets to bolt it to the shelf.

THIS is the burner I've used.  I think that once I have it all assembled with the wind skirt and all, I will have some flexibility when replacing the burner.

The burners are attached, the HLT has been drilled and a weldless bulkhead/valve and a weldless sightglass/thermometer have been added.  I'm getting closer to brewing again.

I don't think I've brewed in ~2 months. But my brewing partners and I just went in on an electric setup. We had been talking about doing this for the last few years but hadn't pulled the trigger.

A few weeks ago, a guy in the area put his setup up for sale. He had done many things the way we talked about  and I had even seen his brewery in action last year, so yeah we took the plunge.

We're several weeks away from brewing on the new rig. Spent most of last weekend framing and hanging drywall in the basement. I'll take some pics when we do our hop harvest on the 6th. Trying to lure some cheap labor with homebrew and food.

So I finally snapped a few pics of our rig. If anyone's familiar with Kal's stuff that's pretty much what we have. We had a big bottling session this day so no action pics. I think we're ~4 or 5 batches in on the new gear and very pleased with things so far.

EDIT - These are 20 gal Al pots with weldless  camlock fittings. We're brewing 15 gal batches.

Mash/Lauter tun - it's a blingman false bottom but not a perfect fit, hence the gasket which was just replaced

That's a good question and I'm not completely certain. I missed 2 of the recent brewdays and was paying little attention (OSU/UM game) last saturday when we did a baltic porter.

According to Kal "It takes approximately 30-45 minutes to heat 14.9 gallons of wort from the sparge temperature of around 140-150F to boiling..."

That seems a bit longer than what I thought I was going to say 20-30 min based on my fuzzy memory.

It's also a 50A panel instead of the 30A and capable of supporting a 1-2 bbl setup if (when) we want to scale up.

upgraded a couple things over the past month. previously had 2 15 gallon polarware pots, added a 20 gallon blichmann G1 scratch and dent pot and a toptier structure with 3 burners. ladder is just for dumping in water to the HLT, don't need it to stir the mash.
