the idea is cool at first, but gets boring quick. They are over priced and under staffed (one bartender for the entire down stairs). The brews they have on tap are ok... stick across the street at Shakespears, by far the best options in Kalamazoo.

Hit a few new to me spots in Kalamazoo this past Friday.

One Well - A lot of a variety.  Hit and miss.  Really enjoyed the session IPA and root beer milk stout.  Did not like the Pear IPA, Vanilla Mead or Dry Hopped Kettle Sour.  The few other tasters I had were meh.  Liked the space.  Would definitely want to hang there is I was local.

Territorial - Not Kalamazoo, but whatever close enough.  More hit and miss on the beers.  The Helles Lager and German Pils were quite good.  Berliner and Gose were ok.  Malt Liquor, Brett Pale, Hefe, Maibock and Saison weren't very good. Currywurst was decent, but pretty weak in curry flavor. More of a restaurant than a brewery. Probably wouldn't come back considering it's out of the way for anything else.

Arcadia in Kzoo - Only had a beer here. English Mild, solid as you'd expect. Theodorherzl had a bitter on cask that was clearly f-ed up. Tart and lemony. Huge, fancy location. Probably would come back just because there isn't much else in downtown Kzoo.

Beer Exchange - Got seats at the upstairs bar so we were ok. Downstairs looked quite bro-tastic. Timed it right with a market crash so we drank a few beers for $3 pints.  Thought the list was solid, but not much in the way of local MI beers.

Bell's - Not new to me, but still fun as always. Bale so Hard, Larry's Latest Session IPA and Lager of the Lakes (can't believe I've never actually had this one before) were all tasty.

Give a man a beer, and he'll waste an hour

Teach him to brew, and he'll waste a lifetime

Not an IPA, but Captain Fantasy was a pear saison Half Acre did that I really enjoyed.
Haven't re-brewed it in a few years. :kickrock:

Which ones do you like?

Previously thought BiggDogg's, Tibbs and Rupert's were all pretty meh. Did want to try to get to Olde Pennisula since I enjoyed a couple of the random beers I tried of theirs at Winter Fest, but we didn't make it.

There is also Boatyard, Texas Corners, Brite Eyes, and Latitude 42 (Bilbo's and Bravo brew as well, but not worth mentioning). Olde Peninsula is also a hit and miss, and they don't try many new styles. There are several within 15 miles like Paw Paw, Barn Brewers

If I had to rank them locally

Bell's
One Well
Tibbs
Arcadia
Latitude 42
Gonzo's (BiggDog)
Olde Pennisula
Texas Corners
Boat Yard
Rupert's

I have yet to make it to Bright Eyes  :bag:

Your next return HopCat will likely be open. Shakespeare's usually has a good selection (usually better than Exchange, although Exchange is cleaner and has the "Market"). Shakes is a good place to watch sports, we'll see once Hopcat opens if their selection will still be good or if Hopcat will take over the limited kegs coming to the area.

Any of these new-ish breweries still open, and pumping out anything good?  Will be in Kzoo on Saturday and Sunday for my daughter's figure skating competition.  Our hotel is right by highway south of downtown so pretty close to One Well.

Condor Valley Crisp | Sour Ale | 6.5%

Seeking to extract the flavors of fall and infuse them into our base beer. This beer is brewed with milk sugar and conditioned on apple donuts, vanilla, toasted almonds, cinnamon sugar and apple sauce.

Sounds like they make a few sweetened sours.  I feel like that would give a candy effect, and sounds gross.
