Kegerator advice

My wife wants to buy me a kegerator for christmas and I need some suggestions.

I have been checking out the Edgestar KC2000. I am not very handy so I need something that is simple and easy to use.  ???

If you have the space, I'd find a full size fridge and have it converted (if you're not up to converting it yourself).  In our area, there's a business called Happy Tap that installs tap systems for bars and home consumers and they'll build whatever you want.  Look for a similar company in your area.  I was quoted something like $540 for the conversion and it included all stainless and Perlick or Ventmatic faucets on a 3 tap system.

The benefit to a full sized fridge is that you have a freezer for snacks/treats/ice as well as additional space in the fridge for bottled beers, soda, etc.  The best part is that you can usually find cheap or free fridges on craigslist or freecycle.

Unfortunately my 550 square foot condo doesn't have any room for an additional fridge. I probably don't have enough room for this but a man must have his priorities in order and a home draft system is high on the list.

I know you said you aren't handy, but this wouldn't be hard.  You wouldn't have to get as fancy as he did routing the collar and such.  If I had to do it over, this is the route I'd go (and still may).  For the price, which would be cheaper than anything you could buy I'm guessing, and the footprint for 6 taps it's tough to beat.

The 6 tap system is nice but I'm not operating a brew pub (the foot print didn't look too bad though). I'm thinking one tap system but thanks for some big picture options.

All you'll have to do is cut the lines that go into the sanke coupler and replace them with corny disconnects.

I've got a space in the corner of my garage that would be nice for a kegerator spot.  I'm considering just enclosing it (it's under a current work bench) and insulating the walls and top leaving the concrete exposed.  Since it doesn't get hot here ever, the garage maxes out at about 60 degrees.  I plan on using it for stuff I'd want to serve around cellar temp.  Thoughts?

Since your places doesn't get very warm, you can use a dorm fridge and insulate the crap out of your area.  Put a temp controller on it so that it's not running all the time.  Could give you your temp you are looking for.

I would put a fan in there to make sure the air circulates. Otherwise you'll have pockets warmer than others. If you try fermenting, the air around the fermentor can get quite a bit warmer than ambient, especially when it is still.
