BEER NEWS:

We hit a huge milestone here in the brewery – the last day of June we brewed batch 500. To put this in perspective, for a town of about 7000 people we have made over 4,750 Bbl’s of beer, or 147,250 gallons, since our very first beer brewed back in September of 2004.  That’s 21 gallons of beer per person.  We’re good drinkers! Batch 500 is a classic Belgian Tripple – the Quincentennial Tripple,  made with the finest European malts & hops and infused with over 50 pounds of candy sugar.  This beer, as well as logo glasses will be available sometime in mid-July.  You can follow us on Facebook-  http://www.facebook.com/ironspringspub & Twitter- http://twitter.com/ironspringspub for up to the minute release updates.

Our Summertime Beer Lineup:

For the summer expect to see the Honey Blonde, The High Mountain Wit, & the Kent Lake Kolsch in the line up all summer long as well as the Crippla’ -our double pale ale – to compliment our other 8 beers on tap.  The Pilsner will return in the fall, when we can start brewing a lager again.

New Beer Release:
Coming August 4th, we will release our batch 500 – the Quincentennial Belgian Trippel.  A classic Belgian Trippel made with the finest European malts, hopped with Styrian Goldings, and fermented with a very special Belgian Abbey yeast strain.  This beer is light in body but rather strong in alcohol.  This is our 500th batch of beer that we have brewed at Iron Springs since September of 2004, when we brewed batch #1, the Epiphany, and we are very excited for this release.  That is roughly 140,000 gallons of beer made & consumed since inception!
To help celebrate this auspicious brew we have Iron Springs Logo glasses (these are Belgian teardrop glasses) available for sale.  $6.50 for just the logo glass or $9.99 filled with this once-in-a-life- time ale.

BREWERY NEWS:

Release of Batch 500!!!!

The Beer: In recognition of the brewing of our 500th batch of beer we’ll be releasing our Quincentennial Belgian Trippel.  Made with the finest European Pale Malts and hopped with Styrian Goldings, then fermented with a traditional Abbey-style yeast, this trippel is sure to have you quaking in a quagmire of quaffability (9.5% ABV).

Extra Mondo Special Dealio: And as if all that weren’t enough excitement, we’ll also be releasing our new Tear Drop Belgian Logo Glasses on the 4th as well: $6.50 for just the glass, and $9.99 for the glass plus the beer. Can you say “bargain”? Too late: we already did!

BREWERY NEWS:

The release of our 500th batch was a huge success!  So much so that all the logo glasses as well as the beer are almost all gone. August was a great beer drinking month at Iron Springs.
New beer releases:
Helles Angels Lager

This is a classic German Helles (pronounced “hell-us”) Lager.  Light, crisp, & refreshing & one of the only few true lagers we ever get to do at Iron Springs. Brewed entirely with imported malts and Czech Saaz Hops.  ABV: 4.7%  Food Pairings: Salads, Pastas, Seafood Tacos, & Spicy Sausages

Oktoberfest

Another classic German lager we get to produce once a year to coincide with the start of Oktoberfest in Germany in late September.  The Iron Springs Oktoberfest will be released on Thursday September 23rd – the first day of Autumn.  Chef Luis and his team will be preparing numerous German dinner specials to go along with the festivities.

A Wet Hopped Version of the Epiphany

What are wet hops, you are asking?  Wet hops are hops that have been freshly picked from the vine, fresh & uncured.  These particular ORGANIC Cascade hops came to us from our friends up in Clearlake – Hops-Meister.  They harvested these hops on a weekend and we were brewing the Epiphany with them by the following Tuesday.  We used 30 pounds of fresh ORGANIC wet Cascade Hops and we are looking forward to doing a side-by-side comparison with the wet hopped Epiphany and the regular Epiphany.  Stay posted on our Facebook page and watch our Tweets for news on the exact release date of this beer.
Altman’s Alt

Back in the line up for our Fall Seasonals is another classic German beer we are featuring this fall.   Altman’s Alt is a smooth, easy drinking amber ale, whose recipe has been handed down the ages from dear great, great, uncle Jebidiah Altman back on the Rhine in Düsseldorf Germany.

New Beer Releases:
Altman’s Alt:
A traditional Altbier style brewed the way it was originally in Düssledorf way back in the 1800?s. Alt in German translates to Old; this beer has been through an extended conditioning period for an aged feel. A very quaffable amber ale brewed with a floor malted barley from Köln, Germany and aroma hopped with Halletaurs. Now on tap!
Oktoberfest:

Oktoberfest
Another classic German lager we get to produce once a year to coincide with the start of Oktoberfest in Germany in late September.  The Iron Springs Oktoberfest was released September 23rd  to a great deal of fanfare and it is flying out the door.  Hurry down and get some before it is all gone until 2011.
Altman’s Alt
Back in the line up of our fall seasonals, the Altman’s Alt is another classic German beer.   Altman’s Alt is a smooth, easy drinking amber ale whose recipe has been handed down the ages from dear great, great, uncle Jebidiah Altman back on the Rhine in Düsseldorf Germany.
Dark Path Dark Lager
Another one-time-a-year beer is back!!  The Dark Path Dark Lager is a truly unique, smooth dark lager. – an homage to Anakin himself.  At just over 5% ABV, this is a beer great for shorter days and cool nights.

Black Magic Rye P.A.
A new beer created by our own Christian Kazakoff, this dark IPA is made with over 100 pounds of German chocolate rye malt and a fine balance of Citra & Simcoe hops.  This is a beer that we suspect will soon have a diehard following all its own.

On tap now: Nitrogen Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

Our Gold Medal winning Oatmeal Stout infused with copious amounts of TCHO cocoa nibs.  Heaven in a glass!
On tap November 22nd: Nitrogen Mocha Porter

Take our coffee porter, infuse TCHO cocoa nibs, and you have one of the most sought after beers we produce.
December Releases and Holiday Cheer:

We are gearing up for December and we have some fun beers coming out.  Look for Edwin’s Winter Scotch Ale to come back as well as a new batch of the Pilsner. Both should be on tap with in the next 2 weeks.  Follow us on Twitter & Facebook for exact release dates.

We will also be offering Holiday 4 packs again this year!  This year we will have 2 bottled conditioned Barley Wines & 2 bottled conditioned Winter Scotch Ales.  All four will come waxed sealed in a convenient 4 pack holder.  This year’s holiday 4 pack will be available the first week of December.

The next CASK for our CASK Thursday program, in celebration of Hanukah, will be the Chazz Cat Rye on December 2nd!  We will be pairing this with some fun Hannukah dishes like latkes & a special hot pastrami sandwich.

New beer releases

The  Dark Path Dark Lager & the Black Magic Rye were both very well received in November, as were all the great chocolate beers – keep up the great work brewers! For December you will see the return of: 
Edwin’s Winter Scotch Ale

This Scottish-Style “Wee Heavy” is brewed annually just in time for the holidays. The Scotch is dark amber in color and has a light smoky caramel taste that dominates the overall flavor. The long finish carries an intense toasted caramel followed by a clean malt balance. 
Czechered Past Pilsner

One of 4 lagers created at Iron Springs, this traditional Czech Pilsner is crisp, smooth, light, and refreshing.  Brewed entirely with imported malts and Saaz hops. 
Cask Thursdays this month
December 3rd:

To celebrate the start of Hannukah, we will be tapping a Cask of the Chazz Cat Rye and pairing it with some fun festive specials like Luis Luscious Latka’s and Hot Pastrami Sandwiches

Cask of Edwin’s OAK AGED Winter Scotch Ale 
December 30th:

In celebration of the 2 New Year’s Eve shows by Hot Buttered Rum at 19 Broadway, we will be tapping a special cask of HBR ale – more info on this beer will be posted on our Twitter & Facebook pages.  For those of you coming to Fairfax for the shows, come in to Iron Springs before the show (or during set break) and show your ticket and receive a complimentary glass of the cask of HBR.

BREWERY NEWS
2010 was the year of the bottle & the Kent Lake Kolsch reigned supreme!  Beer production was up 10%, many new beers were introduced, and our cask program has really taken off.  We have an EXCEPTIONAL line up for our Barrel Aged Beer Month in February, and we have some great new beers being released in 2011.

Newest Beer Release
LSD-Late Seasonal Draught.   This is a one hop (Brewers Gold), ESB style session beer that is super crisp, super clean, and is one long strange trip……. get it while it lasts.

Cask Thursdays this month
We have 2 fantastic Casks the month of January:

January 13th:
The newest creation from those mad scientists in the brewery, LSD-Late Season Draught.  This Cask of LSD is crisp, clean, and it is sure to blow your mind (let us be your guide).  An excellent example of a single hopped beer!

January 27th:
Cask of dry hopped JC Flyer IPA.

Winter 4 Packs
We still have a limited amount of Winter 4 Packs that we will have available again during Barrel Aged Beer Month.

Batch 600

Batch 600 has just been brewed, a tribute to Augusta “Bear” Owsley Stanley who left this world on March 13, 2011.

Bear’s Beer is a big bold mind expanding elixir (English Barleywine) and will be available in the next few months after it has time to age & mature.  6 years, 600 batches of beer – WOW.  Thank you all for your continued support!

New Releases

Our newest release is the Alsatian Pale Ale, A single hopped International style pale pale brewed with a blend of Maris Otter, Pale, light Crystal malts, and Oatmeal. The hop used all the way through, including in the dry-hopping, is called Aramis and is grown in the Alsatian region of France. This pale ale has a slight cereal malt flavor, a clean and silky body, and a dominate earthy/citrusy noble hop presence.

We also are pleased to announce our first ever Pro-Am Beer brewed for the GABF.  This is where an amateur home brewer teams up with a commercial brewer to brew a batch of beer to enter into the GABF.  We have joined forces with Alan Atha of the Sonoma Beerocrats to brewer a Belgian Tripel called Luminesce Tripel.  This Belgian beauty is fermenting away as we speak.  The official release date is Thursday August 18th.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Barrel Aged Cherry Sless Stout we have been teasing you with for the past year.  Christian has been nurturing this barrel aged beer and has given his seal of approval that it is ready for release.  Check out Twitter & Facebook if you want to know the exact date.  We expect this keg will last a day or two at best when it gets tapped, so you don’t want to miss out!

We will have more of the super Tcho Mocha Porter in August as well – a chocolaty beer treat!

Our new tanks arrive January 23rd, so while we transition to our new system, we may be a little low on beer.  But don't fret - once they are in, look out!  More beer, more fun, more beer!

Our annual holiday 4 pack is now available at the pub.  Four scrumptious 22 oz bottles, with one-of-a-kind labels by our own graphic craftsman Paul Zabierek, hand bottled, hand sealed, and arriving in their own handy-dandy carrying case. This year we're featuring 1) 2012 Chardonnay barrel-aged apricot rye ale 2) 2011 barrel-age Old Ale, 3) 2012 Flashover Chili Porter 4) 2012 Edwin's Winter Scotch Ale.  They sell out every year so get yours while you can.

Brewery Expansion Update
The new glycol chiller is on the roof and waiting for the tanks to be delivered on January 30th.  The Pub will still be open, business as usual, but we might be low on beer for a little bit during the upgrade.  Once they are in though, look out!! More beer, more beer, more beer……..  Big shout out to Rich Dowd, architect extraordinaire, who helped guide us through the entire process and helping us with satiating all the Town of Fairfax requirements.  You rock Rich!

As a result of the upgrade, we will open at 4pm on Monday January 21st (we usually open for lunch on all holidays, but not this one) because the 21st is a big day in the brewery expansion project and it might be a little noisy during the day.

Crippla' 5.0
The Crippla' 5.0 is a Double Pale Ale made with all german malts and oatmeal. Lightly bittered with Columbus to 25 ibu's but heavily hopped in late kettle additions and dry hops with Citra and Sorachi Ace. This beer will be big with smooth euro malt and very full bodied with a hit of Lemon Verbena and Tropical flavors in the both the beer and aroma from the awesome hops. The Milk Pail is a Cream Ale style beer made with a blend of two-row, six-row, light crystal, and flaked corn. It was lightly hopped with German Saphir's to 20 ibu's and finished in the boil with fifty pounds of powdered milk sugar. This will be a straw colored beer with light malt and corn flavors and will have a medium to full bodied backbone. We will also be serving this beer on nitrogen. OG is 1.064.

Phil will be heading down to Social Kitchen with a satchel full of Simcoe Hops and some other tasty treats where he & Kim will be making a Belgian Red Rye Ale.  Release date here at Iron Springs some time near the end of March.

Mike’s pulling out the mash paddle once again on Friday May 3rd to brew this ode to Mike & Anne’s first born - Joey Evan Altman.  He will be using a plethora of special ORGANIC honey from our friends at Marshall Farms to make this easy drinking, full bodied, easily quaffable Honey Blonde Ale.  Come on out and say hello during the brew and have a beer in the brewery with Mike.

Same. It embodied the laid-back CA vibe and small hometown brewery feel. There were a few places that I felt truly relaxed in CA, that was one of them.

I feel like we'll see more of this sort of thing, as owners hit retirement age.
