Had a Fantome Hiver with my beef vegetable stew, and it was fantastic.  My kid picked it out while we were in Ashville, just like she picked regular Fantome when we were in Chicago.  If they'd only allow kids in liquor stores in Indiana, I could probably drink a little better.

Great flavor with a ton of complexity.  Nice subtle sour touches and awesome funk

It's worth a shot, definitely...for the dry soapy lemon pepper bite alone. Floral soap hop accompanies nice mild dryness.

In keeping with Howard's brewery of choice/glassware this Saison Sunday:

Brasserie Fantôme
Fantôme De Noel

As is always the case with Fantôme's, the nose is just incredible - dusty, funky, lightly fruity with a pinch of sweet spices.  Taste is a bit of a let down when held in comparison... but this really hits a couple spots on a hot, muggy day like today  :ale:

Two Saison Sundays in a row I missed. :kickrock:

Good news is I got a Hiver and a regular Fantome in the mail today from Tasker and the homebrew one should be all carbed up for next week!   :pickle:

Had myself a saison from a brewery I've never heard of, Contreras Valeir Extra. On tap and pretty solid. Sweet up front but dries out rather quickly with a nice lemon kick.  :ale:

Figured what better day to see how the carbonation is coming along on my Saison w/brett that Sunday, so I popped a bottle to give it a taste.  It's starting to carb and tastes really good, but still has some conditioning to do before it'll be ready to stow away in the cellar.

This is what wouldn't fit in a keg of a regular saison I did that I threw some bugs in.  It has a pretty gnarly pellicle going right now, which I'm kinda surprised by since there wasn't a whole lot of sugar left at that point since it fermented down to 1.006.

Stuck at work and just finished probably the lamest World Cup Final I've ever seen, but things will bounce back soon.  Put in for my leave which will hopefully be approved tomorrow so I can buy my plane tickets to Lumfest tomorrow night  :pickle:  (that's right, you doubters)   <_<.  If that wasn't enough, got a bottle of Sofie waiting for me at home in the fridge so I can do Saison Sunday right.

Sorachi Ace
Brooklyn Brewery

What a beautiful Saison. Slightly hazy, visibly effervescent sunny golden color with a cloud-like billowing bleached white cap.  Gorgeous.  Aroma is fantastic!  Lemon zest and fields of grain with that seeping barnyard musk finding it's way in.  Lemon grass all over this thing in taste (I dig this hop variety), with a pungent citric hop bitterness becoming dominant towards the increasingly drying finish.  Carbonation is lively on the tongue... damn near spot on.

With a touch more of a pronounced barnyard funk to the taste... this Saison would be superb.  As is, this is a most pleasant surprise - thanks for peaking my interest in this one Larry!

I actually had a saison today.  Driftwoods Farmhand Ale.  A local well done ale that's more of an accessible saison.  I had this among many different beers through the day.

Saison Dupont
Brasserie Dupont

An all time classic - and for good reason.  This Saison has it all - Huge, billowing sun-bleached ivory white cap that nods it's head in acknowledgment of the beautiful golden body of this masterpiece.  Barnyard funk heavy in the nose with a good twist of lemony zestyness that carries over to the taste and performs a lusty tango with the hoppy bitterness while the musty funk slowly plays it's sweet serenade in the background. Lively yet delicate carbonation, with that must-have dryness in the finish.

Sweet Baby Jeebus... make mine a double.

No balance.  Bitter and uncouth.

Had a St. Somewhere Saison Athene and a GI Sofie today.

I really don't think the Athene gets enough love. It has a light bitterness, black pepper/tropical fruit/lemon/funk flavors, a light-bodied, dry, effervescent mouthfeel and exceptional balance. It's definitely everything a good Saison should be and I'm aiming to drink more of it this Summer.
