It is in the cities.  Not sure about the northern suburbs though.  I'm sure you could email Dave.  He's a really nice guy.

Twelve-packs of the lager in cans are available at Riley's in Madison, but I'm passing for now until I hear it's not a steaming pile of dookie.

i'd expect it to be decent enough for an all malt lager and not reminiscent of the typical macro.
anyway, i just got off the phone with dave and he's not sure where in the north burbs his beers are but i'll check a few of my local haunts for it.

My thoughts, too, Stu.

If it means anything to you, Mark looked at the ingredient list and thought it would be a typical pre-Prohibition lager.  I like that sort of thing myself, and, in fact, Capital has released its version of that recently; it's called Supper Club, and I had a glass at the Old Fashioned the other day.

Definately make an effort to head out to the BrewFarm. Its well worth it. Just be sure to have a DD or go easy on the beers.
He's now on facebook so you can get the updates as to when he is open for consuption.
Usually a Saturday and Sunday that goes from 3pm to 7pm on both days. Once or twice a month.
Dave is contemplating on what might get bottled next after Matacabras.
Mocha Diablo?

Mocha Diablo would be my vote, but Pam is pushing for Aubexxx. That stuff is a black pepper bomb. tasty though.  The wheatless wonder they had on a  while back was top tier as well. Sounds like Dave will do 750's next year from the brewery, hes not the biggest growler fan in the world.

Sounds like limited hours (3-7pm sat-sun), but plenty of tap options if you visit...

SOme of my best beer related experiences have come at the BrewFarm. Ive been there four times, its only about a 40 min drive from Woodbury.  Check FB or Daves blog for whats on tap. He has had 8 beers on tap everytime Ive been there, always something new to try. The most people there was about five, so its pretty "intimate", if you're  iinto that type of thing. I gotta believe more people will make the trek now that he is venturing into the beer-to-go route.

Correction--its a 1L bottle he is using, not 750ml.

Yup. 1L bottles and he has been filling them with Mocha Diablo for the last couple open brewery dates.

Great Taste line-up for 2011 where I'll be helping out:
Stop on by, say "Hi", and sample some of his wonderful creations  :ale:

"Rauch'n Lager"
Pils, Dingeman’s Special B and Weyermann smoked malts with Palisade
and Glacier hops result in a slightly smoky, easy drink’n red lager.
7.7% abv

"Citra Single Hop Lager"

Third in the series of single hop lagers.  Showcasing a single hop
variety in a pale lager.  Three separate additions of Citra hops.
Pils, Cara Red and Caramel 20 malts. 6.4% abv

"Lupulo Noir"
Belgian lineage yeast, Pils, Caramel 120 and Chocolate malts combined
with Magnum, Chinook, Northern Brewer and Amarillo hops. 9.1% abv

"Rhubarb Saison"
Pils, Caramel 20 and Dingemans Biscuit malts, Santium and Vanguard
hops, fermented with a blend of Belgian Saison and Biere de Garde
yeasts and a late addition of rhubarb puree. Crisp, with a hint of
rhubarb in the nose and finish. 6% abv

"BrewFarm Breakfast Lager"“Can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning.”  Pils malt
with a 20% addition of Grape Nuts cereal, Mount Hood and Vanguard hops
and lager yeast all come together to start your day.  Who knew
breakfast could taste this good??? 7.7% abv

"Schwarzenheimer"
The "Black Pils."  Pils, Carafa III, and Dark Munich malts with Perle
and Sterling hops create a dark, crisp refreshing taste sensation.
Don’t let the color fool you! 6.4% abv

"Svengali"
Like its namesake, “Svengali” has the hypnotizing effect of a Belgian
yeast, Pale malt, brown sugar, and Citra, Summit and Warrior hops.
Spiced with lemon grass, cinnamon and turmeric. Caution is advised –
this brew will put you in a trance! 9.1% abv

"Double Imperial"
Second in the Session series. Pils and Dingemans Aromatic malts,
Glacier and Liberty hops and a Kolsch yeast come together in a crisp,
refreshing sessionable beer. 3.7% abv

"BrewFarm Select"
The beer that continues to exceed expectations! A classic
full-flavored all-malt lager, reminiscent of "old skool" lagers of
yore. Lovely balance of malt sweetness and hops in a refreshing glass
of beer that finishes clean. Just like you remembered it! 5.5% abv

"Matacabras"
Named after Spain’s famed “goat killing” northerly wind, this
tempestuous brew has a maelstrom of flavors swirling within it. Robust
American hops and rye make this deep mahogany ale an experience to
savor. 8% abv

Also, Dave will be at Old Fashioned Friday night Pre-party serving some of his brews...

Of those of you who were at GTOTM and made it by the Brewfarm booth, what did you try and like...
curious as to what some of you think of Dave's little outfit of wonderful brews.
The Rubarb Saison kicked in 45 minutes.  :o
That, and the Svengali ran out the fastest.

I had Svengali and Schwarzenheimer.  I can see Svengali getting the better publicity, but I'm a sucker for a good schwarzbier and I loved the Schwarzenheimer.

I'm down as long as I make it back to MSP airport by Monday morning 5am-ish.  I've only had Matacabras, but it was pretty damn good!   I love WI, and I love going to new breweries that I haven't been to before! Sad I can't take anything home with me though since I'm flying back to Montana :(

I meant to buy a sixer of Matacabras on the Great taste weekend, but somehow I forgot.

Brewfarm will be open on Sunday Oct.23 Sunday and Dave has expressed that he would put something uniquely special on if a group of come out after D Day.

BUMP

Man, do I go out to the BrewFarm, or do I homebrew on Sunday?
Does homebrewing also mean having TBS people help you with any cellar "problem" you might still have?

Once I know what's going on with Eileen and Ally, I'll figure out what I can do as far as having people over.  The cellar's open, just not sure when and for how long.

I'd like to hang out with some people either way, or I've got nothing to do on Sunday at all.  My flight doesn't leave until 6:00am Monday morning.

The snow didn't keep us from going, nor the some 50 other people that showed up in the snow.
Was so worth it as one the new brews - Brewfarm Nectar - is delish! A big Golden Belgian tripel style made with Agava sugar. YUM!

Saturday the 17th started out with a 110 mile trip to Dave's and after 2 hours drive we landed here in farm land Wisconsin.

Wind generated power!

Hop field.

The List of brews - all were well made. I started with the flight of all 8 but the most memorable was the Farmhouse Nectar. I ended up drinking 6-7 glasses of it till the keg was killed.

The set-up with a small brewing system.  The space was heated with infloor heat. Cozy as hell.

Farmhouse Nectar - FG

The Schwartz!

Farmhouse Fresh replaced the Nectar. A saison with fresh hops. FG

We were the first to show up and the last to leave.

It was extremely enjoyable to "camp out" at the bar and talk with Dave.
I chuckled when he mentioned that he has no desire to follow the latest beer trends. He makes what he wants and rolls his eyes when people come in and tell him to make a triple IPA.....etc etc.
He did mention when he decides to make a beer he starts with a yeast  then formulates the malt and hops around it.

Cool place, great beer and will go back again for sure.

Next time!
I have to admit that this was probably one of my BEST beer trips ever.
I totally enjoyed my time there.

That's great to hear. I have yet to have any one I bring with or send out there, not have a great experience and lots of great brews to boot. Dave's the man!

The man is creative as all hell, does what he wants with his beers and doesn't follow the latest beer "fads".
I love that.
