I'll be going to Lost Abbey for the Red Poppy release, most likely, on the 13th...but other than that I'm pretty much free for getting silly.

I'm down for the 13th.  And I could probably come down on the 12th so let me know when you have a better idea where you'll be staying.

Wow.  I think that's the last place I saw them.  Good place for that show.

Incidently, this trip also coincides with the end of SD Beer Week, but I'm sure someone already knew that.  I think Alesmith is doing an event on that Saturday.  I'm sure someone's already posted a link in the news forum.

correction:  it's SF beer week, not SD.  but that Alesmith event is still a fortunate thing to be in town for.  it gets my vote.

This event sounds awesome, one of my favorite bars and one of my favorite breweries.  But, this place is going to get packed! so if it starts at 5pm you best get there about 1:30hrs early.

Yeah...no way in hell I'm going to Hamiltons for this event.  If anybody really wants the BA Speedway, I'll just bring a bottle.

I'm good with saturday night too.  Maybe Hamilton's won't be so crowded after 9pm or so, but can't know for sure...Any one else going to Lost Abbey Saturday afternoon for the Red Poppy/Angel's Share Grand Cru?  I'll be there.

If i get the day off I'll go. FWIW, Red Poppy will see distribution this year.

Hamilton's will be jam-packed, as usual on the weekends. If worse comes to worse, we can always go to Blind Lady or Toronado.

  I'm going mostly to try it on tap, check out the new bar, and most of all for the Angel's Share Grand Cru.

Another place we could hit, definitely Downtown Johnny Brown (not too crowded, but I hate driving/parking downtown, carpool maybe?).

If we are up at Lost Abbey we could go to Churchill's, or Pizza Port Carlsbad, and I wouldn't mind getting some beer mac n' cheese at Stone

Is there a floor I might be able to crash on if I come down for this shindig? I'll kick in dinero for a room, I'm just a bit broke at the moment to swing one on my own.

That and I want to wake up to WST offering me a swig of Firestone 10 from the bottle again.

You could head out through alpine (with a stop at the brewery of course) then head on into the Cleveland national forest where you can find some decent hiking trails. If you head north from there on the 79 you might find the lake cuyamaca area interesting. Then up from there is Julian which is a little town with a really famous pie shop. You just said a half day so there may not be enough time for all this (especially considering brewery's opening hours) but if you head back west on the 78 from there you could stop by stone before heading back to San Diego on the 15. That's a pretty full day depending on how much hiking you do but it's a pretty cool little loop. I'd also recommend checking out the sunset on Friday from sunset cliffs just south of ocean beach. One of the best places in the country to see the sun go down. If you're hungry you can grab a burger at Hodad's while you're over there but it gets crowded. If you don't want to wait in line just walk inside and place an order to go then take it to the beach/cliffs with you.

Just remembered, another place to grab a good burger: Tioli's Crazy Burger...love that exotic meat menu.  In the mood for lamb? kangaroo? antelope (my fav. so far)? alligator? ostrich? Check it out:
http://www.tioliscrazeeburger.com/menu.htm

and it's no more than 2 blocks from Toronado.

Excellent burger place.

For a 1/2 day that isn't too far away you can hike around at Mission Trails Regional park.  Cowles Mountail isn't too far away.

What's a good 1/2 day trip from San Diego?   We'd like to head east and try to find some hiking and nature.  Any recommendations?

This sounds like a good plan.

We could always go to Small Bar on Saturday night, as well: http://smallbarsd.com/

It's co-owned by Blair, who owns Hamilton's

Sounds good to me. If it's too crowded there we could always go to Downtown Johnny Brown's too...they're tapping Younger tomorrow night and there's a possibility they'll have it Saturday night as well since they're not advertising the fact they have it.
