Feb 9th 2010 Press Release

Feb 9th, 2010

For immediate Release:

It’s come to our attention that some bottles of our special release beers have become defunct in the field. First off, we are really sorry if you had an experience with any bunk beer. As we continue to grow, we’re also learning a lot about production brewing and the challenges it comes with. We take the quality of our beer seriously and want to make sure our best efforts make it into the market. Unfortunately, we have had some stuff slip through that’s not up to our standards. We want to make sure we rectify the situation ASAP. So if you have any “weird” or “off” bottles please email cs [at] shortsbrewing [dot] com and include the following:

    * How many Bottles were affected and of what brands?
    * Name and Address
    * Preference of
          o $3.40 per bottle gift certificate to pub
          o $2.50 per bottle refund
          o An Exchange Certificate for another six pack which can only be done at the brewery.

We thank you in advance for your patience and offer our sincere apologies for any unfortunate experiences. For a bunch of really ambitious home brewers, we’re learning a lot about this whole distribution thing. Rest assured quality is top priority. We are in the process or developing a lab, employing a new filler and lots of other new fancy gadgets to help us improve how we make and package our beer. We look forward to hearing from you. Please enjoy this video as we have already taken disciplinary action in-house for inferior quality making into the market.

I usually make it up to Kalkaska a couple of times each summer, so I'm looking forward to finding this place.  Any recs for the best beers to track down?

Good.  When beers are bad, there will be blood.  I recently got an infected Uber Goober and an infected PB&J in a trade.  I was enjoying a nice sunny day in the park when I thought it might be a good time to open those beers.  A bunch of families were around and there were some kids playing on the playground.  I opened the Uber Goober and poured some into my glass.  "WHAT THE FUCK?!?!" I exclaimed in my loudest possible voice.  "This isn't supposed to be a fucking wild ale!"   :hot:  I angrily threw the bottle against the monkey bars as hard as I could and it shattered into hundreds of pieces, causing glass shards to rain down upon everyone there.  A few minutes later, after I had settled down, I opened the PB&J only to find that it was also infected.  A drain pour was too good for this beer.  Only a head smash would do.  I grabbed the half-full bottle and slammed it against my dome piece with as much force as I could muster up.  :wall: I woke up what must have been a few seconds later, a little dazed but strangely satisfied.  Yep, definitely some unintended bugs in those beers.

Without the quality issues though, I hear those beers can be pretty good.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to try the non-infected versions whenever Short's gets this right.

I like a lot of their beers but they have perhaps the worst logo in brewing history.  I guess it could be the best, depending on your likes?

When they poured it at Great Taste, it was super spruce-y. A little too much for me. I didn't hate it, but their other stuff was much better IMO.

I agree.  Too much spruce.

Choose the Beer to Add to the 2013 Brew Schedule!
After almost 400 votes were cast, the top 3 brews named in the “you decide” election we held last week were Black Cherry Porter, Captain Fantasy, and Chocolate Wheat. We decided to have a run-off election between the top 3 choices using Surveymonkey. Votes may be cast until 11:59 pm on January 20th. The winner gets brewed and bottled in 2013!

That's not easy at all. I had chocolate wheat a few times up at the brewery and it was awesome. BCP and CF are great as well...

We just put the Honey Badger on tap. It's an India Black Ale made with orange blossom honey, which provides a faint sweetness alongside the prominent flavors of roasted malt and burnt cocoa. Hints of citrus fruit hide in the finish paralleled by the pronounced bitterness, reminiscent of a rich cup of black coffee. ABV 8.6%/ IBU 101. We are also tapping a few kegs of Bourbon Wizard, starting right now!

Your votes have been tallied and Captain Fantasy, a saison brewed with pear and Soriachi Ace hops, will be added to our 2013 bottle release schedule (details to follow). Although we bottled this delicious Half Acre Beer Company collab beer back in 2011, it was only available at our pub.

Short’s Brews Available in Limited Supply in Boston Area
In celebration of the 2013 Extreme Beer Festival (EBF), there will be a very limited one-time-only release of Short’s Brews in the Boston area beginning this week. Our beers will be available at both off-premise and on-premise retailers in support of the EBF mission to explore the extremes of what craft beer can be.

Fans will be able to briefly find Huma Lupa Licious (American IPA), Pandemonium Pale Ale, and Soft Parade (High Gravity Fruit Rye Ale) at some of the best beer stores and beer bars in Boston. So, keep a watchful eye out for this unique opportunity to get Short’s on the East coast and continue to celebrate the extreme in craft beer!

Now on tap at the pub: Abnormal Genius - High Gravity Golden Ale brewed with local Earthwork honey and fermented with sunflower seeds! Named for one of Joe's monikers, this beer blends together the honey's bright sweetness with the distinctive nuttiness of the sunflower seeds. This beer brilliantly balances the bitter, the dry, and the sweet. First released as beer 9 of 13 in our 2007 Imperial Series, Abnormal Genius returns now to our brewpub at 8.3% ABV and 53 IBU.

New on tap at our brewpub: Carob Stout - A big-bodied stout with distinguishable characteristics granted by the substantial use of roasted malt, dark specialty grains, and ground carob. Carob is a legume best know for its cocoa flavor and its richness in vitamins and minerals. Carob Stout (6.4% ABV and 92 IBU) is the final beer to be rereleased from our 2007 Imperial Beer Series. Come by the pub in Bellaire to experience this "cordial journey of sumptuous rich intricacy"!
