https://blockclubchicago.org/2020/09/22/brewery-co-working-space-for-parents-aim-to-open-in-old-armitage-theatre-building-next-year/

I picked up their first beers and tried a crowler of a Brett IPA that was very good. The BA fruited sour ales were pricey at $18/375mL before tax/tip. Interested to see how this place takes shape.

Hopefully this guy will get a better idea of the landscape, and recognize that several other local breweries make BA wild/sour beers.  Off Color, Dovetail, Half Acre, Whiner, Goose Island, etc. To say that you're "bringing this style to Chicago" comes across as a bit uninformed, maybe a misquote though.

He did retweet this:

Sad.  Not sure there is a good solution right now.  If everything opens up fully, you're going to have high rates of transmission again (Hello, Wisconsin!).  We set another record for new cases again today.

I really need to go one last time.  Perhaps they will pour me a bunch of their Glenfarclas that is older than me for reasonable prices.

Kinda sad I haven't been there in awhile too. Met a guy this week at DT that used to be a beer buyer there.

Somewhere it was said that their whisky collection is a big asset, more so than their physical space. They may close the pub and sell it off through the shop or something like that.

Happy to see my local eatery on the latest Eater sangwish map... that Philly roast pork is really good, though i'm partial to their pork tenderloin and steak & potato sams.

Went to Artopolis in the last couple years, same with Fontano’s and Davanti Enoteca. I have nostalgia for the area, but rarely go there.

In Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, the iconic Hopleaf Bar announced it was closing "until further notice."

"Sorry to say that it has become obvious that Covid 19; that microscopic, diabolical, unthinking, and destructive virus, is back with a vengeance and that, combined with the restrictions on indoor dining, the new 'stay at home' recommendation from health experts, the challenges that the coming winter weather brings to outdoor service and the positive test that one of our back of the house employees got, that it is not prudent or wise fo [sic] us to remain open," the bar wrote on Facebook. "Until further notice, Hopleaf is closed. WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS!!. We will reopen when it is deemed safe to resume indoor service."

The bar, which has been in business in the area for 29 years, urged customers to wear masks and avoid large gatherings.

"The quicker that we deny opportunities to this dastardly virus, the quicker we can all get back to the things we'd rather be doing," the post read.

Here's the fundraiser for Hopleaf's staff during the winter.

In other news, RIP to Phyllis Jaskot of Phyllis' Musical Inn. Really interesting history in this article.

I used to live in the area in the early 2000's, when there were still a few remnants left of Polish Broadway. Went to a house party above the bar once, and saw friend's bands play at Phyllis' a few times.

I think it's been a full year since I've been down Division street.  I'm headed back later this month to see family, but doubt I'm going to get into the city with covid, etc.  :(

Hit the streets in Chicago today.  <hey!>

Nothing crazy.  Stopped at Paradise Park because you could sit “outside” even though you were really inside. Shitty food, bad drinks...happy to be somewhere to have a drink, but never again.  grabbed subs from Bari and that’s about it.

I've been looking for this video for the better part of a year, after someone vaguely confirmed it's existence. Uploaded a week ago, better late than never. If you've ever seen an old framed photo of Conan at various North Center establishments, this December night in 1995 is why. :suds:

edit: at 4:09... thought this was Hansa Clipper, but it's most likely Resi's.
