Going to Belgium in October
« on: August 14, 2007, 06:24:37 PM »
For my honeymoon.

Any advice/suggestions/recommendations from those that have been there?

So far I'm thinking of staying in Brussels.

i didn't really care much for Brussels.  it was gray, cold, rainy and we didn't see much to do.

conversely a friend of mine went with his wife for 2 months around Europe and said Brussels was his favorite city "by far".

go to the Bier Circus in Brussels.  say hi to Dany at Fantome in Soy.

Check out the Metropole hotel - nice old place, very ornate, and only a few blocks from the Grand Place.  I stayed there on my honeymoon about 10 years ago.
Give a man a beer, and he'll waste an hour

Teach him to brew, and he'll waste a lifetime

My fiance works for the Hilton so that's where we'll be staying.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Top notch beer bar.

Olivia and I enjoying a brew at Cafe In de Wildeman.

Hotel Erasmus in Brugge: Awesome place to eat/drink.

Hotel Erasmus in Brugge: Stille Nacht bottled November 1986!

Brugge is beautiful.

Brugge: De Kuppe, bartender bought me a Rochefort 10

Brussels: Drinking a Cantillon Fou' Foune at Delirium Cafe.

CANTILLON!!!!!!!

Spontaneous fermentation.

Oak barrels where secondary fermentation happens.

BEERSEL!!!! 8 Kilometers south of Brussels.

Beersel is the anti-Brussels; farmland and lambic-land!

Ever see that castle on bottles of Oude Beersel? This is it.

Drie Fonteinen.

Drie Fonteinen owner/head brewer, Armand and I.

Eating a meal and drinking the Oud Gueuze (on draft!) at Drie Fonteinen.
