Doghouse Brewing (OC) - IPPA
« on: July 26, 2007, 01:17:51 PM »
Special Edition - IN Honor of Special Addition Kendyl Taylor Sweany
9/23/06
Imperial India Pale Ale
10% ABV

A - Pours a bright orange body with a decent haze to it.  Head is small, tan, and made up of uniform tight bubbles.  Sticky lacing.  Nice looking brew.

S - Sweet fruity hops.  Orange juice and a touch of tangerine.  Some strawberry sweetness.  Pears.  Backed up with slightly biscuity, but mostly caramel malts.

T - Taste is much more sweet than hoppy, which might not have been the case when this was first bottled.  Lots of fruitiness with strawberries, orange juice, apple and pear.  Light caramel.  Slight anise note.  Bready in the backgroud.

M - Medium to full bodied.  Smooth carbonation.  Very nice.

D - Good beer here.  Even though I like my DIPAs to be super hoppy, this is a very drinkable, tasty brew.  Almost a barleywine.  Thanks again Mike! :banned:

Awesome brew. Pours a murkey amber, with a great looking head. Also has nice lacing, something I have yet to attain. Smell is full of hops, kinda like DFH 90 light, but better than DFH 60. Taset is hoppy/malty/hoppy. Finishes really smooth, sweet. I had my IPA jsut before this, and I wish it had the body, malt of this one. Great brew, OC.  :banned:
Don't look back, you're not going that way.

So, I entered this beer as a Strong Ale/American Barleywine in the state fair.

It received one of the 7 honorable mentions, out of 38 entries.

I tried to find the homebrew winners when I was down there, but didn't see them anywhere.
I found all the other food categories and wines, but not a single beer nor mention of one.

BTW, this beer was VERY good.  I forgot to review the one I had, so you'll have to send me another (case).
