Steve = DegreeFreedom ?

This has not been substantiated but it is my educated guess based on the similarities....

Same location
Same M.O.
Same douchebaggery

In the meantime, can anyone clue me in as to why I keep getting a 404 error when i try to get into the forums at MN Beer?

I'm gonna stop in for a bit.  Sounds like the event is set to run 8pm-10pm but I'm sure it'll be going on before and after that.

Yeah, I would just rather make it an earlier night tonight in preparation for a long day tomorrow.

word.  I'm feeling the same way.  Just a couple beers and then home to bed.  Can't believe some people thought they were going to party at Stub and Herbs all night, take a bus to the brewery and continue to party til they open.  They'd be grabbing their beer and wishing they had a ride home ASAP.

Oh yeah, 35W northbound from 62 to 94 is closed this weekend starting at 10pm tonight.  Just an FYI for anyone that may need to go that direction.

You gonna make sure Fletty gets a bottle of Darkness?  Sounds like he's looking to use it to trade for some Russian River stuff.

You guys need to have Powermad swag for sale!  I've been growing my hair out just for this event.

Pre-party was good stuff.  Very cool that they broke out Darkness early.  Just eating breakfast now and then I'll start gettin' ready to head over to the brewery.

You are correct.  They have gone over production of 3500 bbls, which means no more on premise next year.

I arrived around 8am.  TT and his brother got there around 8:30am.  I dropped back a couple people in line to hang out with them.  We were about a block from the gate and a bit over 100 people in line.  The people at the front of the line showed up with their camper at 7:20pm the previous night (fuck that).  Someone had setup a little tasting table towards the front of the line and Omar had brought out a keg of Coffee Bender for people to have at.  NFLMVP and MikeWeiss showed up a bit later along and Faro was between them and us in line.

At noon they opened the gates and started checking IDs and giving out wrist bands.  It took us about 10 minutes to get to the gate where you were given a 2nd wrist band.  This 2nd wrist band guaranteed you up to 6 bottles of Darkness.  At that point you had the choice to buy your bottles at any time until 5:30pm.  We opted to buy them right away but should have waited as there were no lines later on in the day.  Lines for bottles were broken down by ranges of numbers on your wrist band to keep the lines shorter.  There was another line for beer tokens.  $3 for 1 or $20 for 7 12oz pours of beer.  We got our 6 bottles after a 10min wait in that line.  Some wrist band numbers were marked for a prize.  TT won a signed Darkness poster.  One guy won a bottle of 2007 Darkness.  Pretty sweet stuff.

Dropped everything off in the car and back to the party.  Time for some tea-bagged Furious.  Hung around and talked to people.  Had some food and grabbed some Smoke direct from the brite tank.  Back outside to enjoy the nice weather we were lucky enough to get this time of year.  2:30pm a cask of cedar aged Smoke went on.  4pm Powermad went on and fuckin rocked.    We lined up again to get more bottles at 6pm and were some of the first in line.

Faro was nice enough to have TT, MikeWeiss, and I over for a couple tasty brews after Darkness day.  Thanks Faro.

Overall a very well run day.  Only suggestions I would have would be to do the wrist bands verifying you're 21 a little before the gates open and shuffle the Darkness wrist bands so everyone doesn't have numbers in the same range at the same time to keep the people spread out amongst the lines.  I hope FFF takes some cues from Surly.  Hats off to Surly and the organizers.

If by new laws you mean the laws that were passed in 2004 or so allowing breweries under 3500 bbl (and brewpubs) to sell growlers and 750ml bottles, then yes. In 2009 Surly will not be an under 3500 bbl brewery, so no sales from the brewery.

We don't have DFH or Stone, but Hudson is right across the border.  The locals that are a bit more difficult are Lake Louie, Central Waters, Grumpy Troll.  I know I would love to get some Flanders Ned at some point.

I can do Central Waters. Bourbon Cherry Stout, Kosmic Charlie, Coffe Stout, regular lineup...

If I fill out my wants/gots they won't be deleted quarterly, right? <_<

Should have mentioned that last week ... or the week before.

I can do the central waters stuff, and I just picked up a few bottles of Lake Louie Scotch Ale and Tripel.  I also have a bottle of Grumpy Troll Maggie IIPA and Amnesia Baltic Porter.

Do you get any Ale Asylum over there?  Have some of that I can throw in too.

I was going to see if I could track down some more, since I was dragged out of there after getting my initial six.  I was hoping to hook up the Northeast WI crew but I didn't have much choice in the matter, when my transportation decided to bail around 3:30.

I'll wait to see if Bison and Severstad have any luck here before trying to trade for more.  If they're taken care of, I'll just be content with what I got, even if I don't have enough to help everyone else on my list of trade requests.  It doesn't make any sense to trade for it at the same time I'm trading it away.

Next year, assuming Surly makes any arrangements for an off site release, I'm making my own plans.  I won't be at the mercy of someone else's plans again.   :hot:

:cough:....

I'm guessing you can hunt this one down right here, Joe.  At least, you won't have any more difficulty getting your hands on it than I would.  There are plenty of TBSers who got their hands on it and a number of them got in on the unclaimed bottles at the end of the day.  If I hadn't have been dragged out of their early, I'd have been more than happy to set you up but it seems there are a bunch of people in a much better position to send it out than I am...especially if I have to trade for more of it, just so I can trade it away.

I can do the central waters stuff, and I just picked up a few bottles of Lake Louie Scotch Ale and Tripel.  I also have a bottle of Grumpy Troll Maggie IIPA and Amnesia Baltic Porter
This was bottled!?!? :excited: Maybe I'll call in Saturday and make the trip up to GB.

Yep. Not sure if they are available anywhere else, but they sell the bottles at the brewpub.

My coworker's buddy scored, so I have one bottle coming. Since my b-day is next week, he said that'll be my gift. What a pal!

Thanks for thinking of me MVP. You rock, man. Maybe jj21 would take one off your hands, but that's your call.

Glad to open the bar to fellow TBS people. We will have to have more gatherings there. I have some ideas...

Bison, I don't have an extra but if you let me know what you have available to trade for it, I could put up a post for you on another site

With all the extras that walked out of there, I assumed you would be covered by now.  It sounds like there were a bunch of folks who got more than 6.

It won't let me list Neuske's Bacon.

In addition to all the regular WI stuff (new glarus, tyranena, capital, etc.) I have limited quantities of the following I would trade for a Darkness:

Old Sol Wheatwine
Flossmoor Station Collaborative Evil
Flossmoor Station Sheol Barleywine
Capital EishPhyre
Central Waters  BB Barleywine and Kosmyk Charlie
Central Waters BB Cherry Stout
Central Waters Coffee Stout
Lake Louie Warped Speed Scotch Ale
Lake Louie Tripel
Grumpy Troll Maggie IIPA
Grumpy Troll Amnesia Baltic Porter
