As long as I work where I do I'll never be at Darkness Day :wall: That's one of our biggest weekends of the year.

Halloween every year for draft release.  This is the first time it's been around Halloween for bottles.  Although this is only the 2nd bottle release.  Growlers weren't all during Halloween either.

In this case, it's the weekend prior to Halloween.  I know this because I have my daughter for Halloween, for the first time since the big D.

Get working on the travel itinerary, Joe.  We expect to see you there!   :bye:

(as a beer geek, you are expected to go to beer events, other than the ones you help set up  ;D )

Don't we get the same response from Joe, for every event....except of course, Suds and Tubs.  :shuked:

For those of you that check out BA, John Bierman of Stub and Herbs is hosting a Pre-Darkness Day Night at Stub and Herbs.  He will have a bunch of RIS on tap along with hosting a swap meet for beer.

I know you MN locals have to get through the MN ABR weekend first but I was wondering if there are any extracurricular activities planned for the Darkness weekend.

I'm coming into town with Brian but he's got a buddy, who lives in town, that he wants to hang with after the release and I might be on my own.  I want to try and get a handle on what my options are, before committing to hanging with them OR bailing on them.

On top of everything else, I'm not sure I want to come staggering into a strange house (with little kids) after a night of drinking.....

Take good care of your beer and your beer will take good care of you.

I haven't even thought about it yet.  I know there is the gathering at Stub and Herb's the night before with a "swap meet", but I don't think anything else has really been discussed.

So what's the swap meet?

I'm not sure what time we'll get in on Friday, assuming we do get in on Friday.

Erdinger2003 and I will probably try to meet up for a trip up there.  Might have a couple other Iowa buddies going too.  Any drinking plans before and after?  Stub and Herb's sounds pretty good.  Other options or ideas?  I have a few things I wouldn't mind opening.

I'll be up for Stub and Herb's but I'm not sure when I'll get into town so I'm not sure if it's realistic to plan for it.  I may not know our itinerary until the week of the release.

Aside of the swap meet, Friday night, will we also be allowed to share beers?  I'd love to bring a few tasty treats if everything pans out.

D-Day - The Latest
Oct 18, 2008

Inquiring minds want to know - What's happening at D-Day? Here is the latest as of today.
Brewery gates open at noon on Saturday, October 25th. The 1st 700 people through the gates have the option of purchasing bottles of 2008 Darkness. Each individual can buy up to 6 bottles. The bottles cost $17 each and that includes tax. CASH ONLY! These bottles are 750 ML, like a wine bottle, that?s equal to 25.3 ounces. Folks can purchase their bottles of Darkness anytime between noon and 5:30. You must purchase your beer by 5:30 or your beer will be sold to someone else.
These bottles of Darkness will not be sold at liquor stores. We will not mail these bottles of beer to folks, nor will we save the beer for folks that can not make the event. If you want the beer, be one of the 1st 700 people through the gates.
Darkness Goblets, posters and t-shirts will be for sale during the event. This year?s Darkness poster was designed by local tattoo artist Nik Skrade.
D-Day attendees will be able to buy Surly beer during the event. $3 tokens will be available for purchase. CASH ONLY! These tokens are redeemable for 12 ounce beers that will be poured from noon to 5:30.
Three bands will be playing during the day at the brewery.
12:15 GuzzleMug
2:00 God Came From Space
4:00 Powermad

We will be closing the gates at 6:30. Please arrange for a pickup, cab ride or designated driver. We will have volunteers directing folks to different areas to park in our industrial park. Our neighbors have been kind to let you use their lots to park. Please don;t leave crap in their parking lots and make sure your car is removed from their lot by Sunday evening if you need to leave your car.
Food will be available for purchase during the event.
Minors are welcome with their parent.
This is the last D-Day at the brewery because we will not be able to sell beer from the brewery after December 31st of this year. Stop on by and enjoy the day!
Darkness draft launch parties, Omar will be at each of the events.
October 30th - Stub & Herbs
November 5th - Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL
November 12th - Hell's Kitchen in Duluth

I noticed here: http://community.myfoxtwincities.com/blogs/brewhound_mpls/2008/10/21/Darkness_Day_is_Coming that the beers come in 12 bottle cases. I wonder if I need to bring my own box to hold my 6.

Same here. I'll be able to get it on tap, so I don't think I would need 6 bottles to keep if I happen to get that many.

Our travel plans have us leaving from Waupun, between 5:30 and 6:00, Friday evening.  We likely won't partake in any of the Friday night festivities because of the late start.  :grumblegrumble:

This means no stop at Neuske's for bacon, sausage or ham spread.  :grumblegrumble:

Saturday seems like no problem.  We'll shoot for a early(ish) arrival at Surly, presumably by 9:00.  NoBody has a buddy who lives close to Surly and we'll be staying with him, his wife and kids.  I know that NoBody wants to hang with his buddy but I don't know what if any plans they have, beyond the release on Saturday.  If they choose to do other stuff, I may be stuck with tagging along, rather than enjoying the company of my fellow beer geeks.  :grumblegrumble:

Hopefully, we'll stick around at Surly long enough to be able to schmooze with everyone at the release.  If I have my way, we'll hang out most of the day but I'm afraid I may not have much say in the matter.  Saturday night will be a total crap shoot but perhaps I'll be able to branch away and hook up with them later, if they'd rather not go out and drink awesome beer (?!?!?).  If this is the case, I'll be without transportation so I'm basically up in the air until the day of the event.

This is not the weekend I had planned and I'm kinda bummed that this trip could turn into 10 hours of driving, just to get 6 beers.  I wouldn't have planned the trip if it I knew it was going to come down to that.

In the meantime, I'll be crossing my fingers that I can convince them to join the geeks for an evening of great beer and camaraderie on Saturday night. If it turns out that way, the whole weekend will turn around and I will no longer :grumblegrumble:

So, what's going on Saturday night?

Take good care of your beer and your beer will take good care of you.

I'll be heading to Stub & Herbs on Friday night.  Not sure what time I'll be around the brewery in the morning.  I'd be happy to drive you to any after events Steve.  Not sure what my plan is for that night (but I'll most likely be around til they close the doors).  I have a friends that's been looking to hang out for a while now and I don't want keep her waiting.  We'll see.

I, too, would be happy to drive Saturday night. Maybe if there is not too many people, we could convene at my place. As I posted a bit ago, BBCS 2006-2007, Wake-N-Bake 2006 and Big Eddy RIS on tap. If there is interest, I'll have to check with the war department. I'll msg you my cell.

Oh, we get Nueske's here in the twin cities.

Wow, Steve Fletty the St. Paul Homebrewer that goes out of his way to slam anyone that likes Surly, is asking for someone on the mailing list to pickup some bottles for him.  Bwahahahaha!  I'm pretty sure he's repeatedly talked shit about Darkness in the past.  Wonder why he'd want a bottle.
