Just landed in Seattle
« on: August 05, 2022, 12:30:24 PM »
It’s going to be a beery weekend. Will update as much as I can, for anyone that cares. Used to live here and will hit up old haunts and some new spots.

First stop is Flying Lion brewing. It’s very mediocre but it was right near our old home. It opened soon after we moved here. The apricot hefe is no bueno but the other 3 (pils, BSA, rye stout).

Second stop is Perihelion, which is 2 blocks from our AirBnB. This was the second closest brewery to us when we lived here. Another extremely pedestrian brewery. For a flight with 3 different Saisons (dark, rye, hoppy) an Impy stout, and their roasted pepper IPA. Everything tastes very forgettable and not soulless.

Standard Brewing. One of my favs and the lagers did not disappoint.

Now at Georgetown brewing. Having 2 Flanders beers, one with cherry and one with blackberries. And more. All good.

Aside for the Avery Samuel’s 2015 on draft and other drafts. Drinking pHriem white grape sour (can’t spell actual name)   Good spot. Though, a fairly light crowd for a Friday 😬

Reuben’s Brews, Fair Isle, or Fremont on the itinerary?

I’m not a fan of Fremont and Reuben’s. Everyone loves them here but I was not a fan. Fair Isle is new to me but wasn’t recommended by a beer geek friend. However, Sovereign was and is on the agenda along with Pike Place and Stumbling Monk. Everything else is incidental to these and eating oysters.

Big Time Brewing. Old school campus area brewpub. I used to work around here and this is another place I’m attached to. But the beer is actually all spot on. No frills but no complaints here.

Ravenna Brewing. Next to the wedding we are going to. 40% menu is hoppy, 40% kettle sour fruitier, 2 lagers and a jalapeño kolsch. They lagers are good and the pepper kolsch is a waste of jalapeño. So, the typical modern brewery.

Pike Brewing. A real shrine to beer. Always love coming here even if the beer is just mediocre.

Cloudburst. I wasn’t a big fan when I lived here but I’m really impressed. It’s mostly hop stuff and it’s all well made. Porter, Helles, hoppy pils, and IPAs. I enjoyed them all.

Now at Holy Mountain. The hipster brewery in Seattle. They make good stuff. Palate starting to fade. Not sure how many more stops I can make.

Fair Isle is awesome. One of the best newer (open in the last 5 years) Saison/Farmhouse breweries in the country.

At Bottleworks drinking their collab with HotD called Alan. How fitting. Another old school place and open on Monday early.

Missed out on Fair Isle but will prioritize next time.

On my way to Moscow... Idaho. Visiting a friend for 24 hours. Will get a chance to see their beer scene.

Leaving the PNW from Spokane. Hit up 3 breweries. The best was The Grain Shed, a bread maker and brewpub in one. They use a lot of different heirloom grains. Pretty cool and the sandwich was amazeballs.

I got to try a Fair Isle beer, which was very nice and much better than the 2 Ale Apothecary beers I had on this trip (a brewery I used to enjoy a lot).

A barleywine and some sour that was new to me (meaning it wasn't made in 750mL back in my day).
