I still haven't found a goddamn one.

Maryland probably doesn't allow Protestant beer.

I did buy McEwans in Jersey.

What I don't taste: MALT.  The rich, bready, biscuity malt flavor that's at the forefront of Belhaven. (I had similar comments when comparing most US Oktoberfests against their German counterparts. I'm not sure how much of it is technique and how much is ingredients - English/Scottish pale ale malts vs American two-row.)
I think its both.

Generally speaking, American versions of English (including Scottish) styles tend to be much cleaner as well. I think American breweries have a shorter clock and prefer yeast that works faster and drops out faster.
Yeah, fair point about that - similar to why you don't see a lot of really good craft lagers.

Found this guy lurking in my beer fridge!  Sweet and smoky.

My local store has about 5 different Einstok beers but I haven't seen this one yet.

I don't think I will be able to finish this.  But the local store got Old Chub and Founders Dirty Bastard. I will pick those up once they get singled out.

Ok, the Belhaven got more tolerable as it warmed.

Also, enjoyed another McEwans last night. I am actually happy I got a 4 pack. I am looking forward to drinking another one soon.

Picked up a sixer of Tyranena Sheep Shagger last week.  I've always liked this one, but this year's batch seemed "off" to me. There is an underlying burnt flavor in it that is unappealing.

This why buying sixers often feels like a gamble. And it may not be the brewery but just the idiosyncrasies of my palate.

Odell 90 Shilling Ale

Finally found a single of this. Very anticlimactic.

Dark burnished bronze, short lived head of foam, good clarity. Aroma is malty, caramel, bread crusts, a little musty and wort-like. Sweet cooked grains. Malt forward and bland, bread crusts and tea flavors. Light bodied and light carb level. Aftertaste has a light odd note from the yeast that is unique I guess, but not that interesting. Glad I got a single, not worth trying again.

I enjoyed the month.  Finished with a 4 pack of McEwan's.  An imported malt bomb that I can't remember the name but it came in a clear bottle.

Then on my trip to GA I picked up Kilt lifter from Monday Night Brewing and it was great.  Really like that brewery.

Yeah, I am happy that I returned to this beer. If it weren't for this thread, I probably would have not appreciated how much I still like this beer. Alternatively, I knew Skullsplitter was not for me.

Almost forgot this one:

3 Floyds - Aggromaster (Coffee RTB)

Very intense, pungent and flavorful coffee, malt base is still noticeable, but it's very much a coffee delivery vehicle.

Overall rankings:
1. Aggromaster
2. Wee Heavenly
3. BA Barton Hall
4. Belhaven 90/~ Wee Heavy
5. Louie’s Reserve
6. Hopewell Open Tab
7. 90 Shilling

Cross-post from the December thread: Bell's Christmas Ale

Billed on the website as a traditional Scotch Ale, so no special holiday spices or anything. Aroma is subdued, at least straight from the fridge. It's sweet with caramel/toffee in the flavor, but not all that "malty" like the Belhaven and Orkney beasts from November.  I'll let it sit for a little while to warm up.  Definite alcohol warming at 7.5% abv
(time passes)
After letting it warm up, the aroma pops a lot more: toffee and a bunch of dark fruits like raisin and plum. Flavor gets some light roasted notes and a bit more bready maltiness.

Finally had my first Scotch ale since we made it beer of the month.  Bell's Christmas beer.  I don't remember much of it after a very long weekend and a couple of beers ahead of it.  Will (maybe) do a proper review tonight.

a bit late but Wolf Hollow just released their Tiny Tartan wee heavy.  Always a dead solid version, malty and a bit peat-smokey.  :pickle:
