Figueroa Mountain - Point Conception on Sunday

Should we take a cab home, Jesus?
Shit man, we can hoof it from here.
I know you can walk on water...
But can you walk on this much beer?

Grabbed six of these today from Miskatonic:

Before Times from Bingo here in town.  Pretty good.  I wouldn’t complain if it was a touch more bitter, but I’ll happily kill the four pack.

Metazoa Hoppopotamus

Pretty solid, although I find I'm not a big fan of Mosaic hops - that melon/passionfruit character feels a little bit sweet, even in a bitter beer.

Drank a few so far.  Modern Times WCIPA and Liquid Gravity WCIPA.

I was looking for some Green Flash and couldn't find it.  Used to see them everywhere.  Loved Palate Wrecker.

I don't think Green Flash exists anymore.

Website is still up and looks like new beers.  Maybe just reduced production/distribution during pandemic?  Hope they're still brewing, always enjoyed their stuff.

Titletown Green 19 on tap with lunch today.  Meh.  Used to be better.  Doesn't seem to have the same hop profile, and isn't as bitter as it used to be ... or maybe my memory sucks.

Lakefront (Milwaukee) IPA.  Also meh.  Similar to Green 19, maybe half a notch below.  Not enough bitterness.

They shut down their Virginia Beach brewery in 2019, and ended distro in 42 states. Disappeared here too, but kept the original location going.

Avery Brut IPA. Description says "extra bubbly" and true to that the can foamed all over the counter when I opened it (it's been sitting undisturbed in the fridge for a couple of weeks). Settled to a meringue-like head with tons of lacing.

Nice blast of old school hops - Centennial, Columbus, Chinook, Cascade, Simcoe and something called "Idaho 7", which I found described as "Juicy tropical fruit and citrus (think apricot, orange, red grapefruit, papaya) with big notes of resiny pine and hints of black tea".  Tropical fruit didn't really stand a chance vs all those "C" hops though.

Tyranena Lake Millionaire IPA.  Don't ever recall having this one before.  Decent enough, but not great.

I don't know ... maybe I just don't like IPAs anymore?  Maybe my taste buds just suck now because I am old?

I had a hard time transitioning from the "Lawnmower beers" to the WCIPA.  My palate took a while to adjust to the bitterness it used to crave.

Honestly I can’t really think of a memorable IPA from Tyranena, maybe a DIPA from the brewers gone wild series over 10 years ago? Do they even make Scurvy anymore?

West Coast Wizard IPA, Miskatonic Brewing, Darien, IL

Caught some sediment going in at the end, otherwise a bright golden beer. Dank resiny aroma, sandalwood and bready malt. Hint of tangerine at first that fades quickly. Resiny bitterness, grapefruit peel, angel food cake. Light bodied and drinkable. :ale:

Grains of Wrath:

TopWire IPA Vol. 2
This is the second of a three volume series of IPA collaborations with Crosby Hop Farms. Volume 2, featuring Centennial, Cascade, and C-148 has bright hop flavors and aromas of citrus, grapefruit and over-ripe stone fruit. 7% ABV
i'm not good at putting this stuff in words but i can't see myself with anyone else except maybe urbanhack.

Old classic: Dark Horse Crooked Tree

This mofo is DANK. Doesn't really mess around with citrus flavors, just piney, resiny biterness.

Sounds great.  I miss that piney flavor that just kind of sticks to your tongue.

First time trying Focal Banger.  Apparently you can order Alchemist in CA now?  I enjoyed them both.  I had only had Heady Topper once before but it was exactly as I remembered.  Super fresh, bright hoppy flavor.

Didn't see it in the store, but Dark Horse also has an IPA called "Smells Like a Safety Meeting"

When fresh, this was the dankest IPA I'd ever tasted.  When not fresh it's ... not good.

I think they debuted that one at the Taste years ago, I remember getting a laugh from the name. :D

Half Acre High & Dry

Dry hop additions of Simcoe and Mosaic Cryo ride a London III wave of comfort and backyard strawberries, while a hearty bittering addition preserves balance and a slammable lean. We're excited to have it back. 6.8% ABV.

Tastes like tangerine and dandelion greens to me. While somewhat hazed, I can still see through the glass.

Technically drank it in August but bought it in July with intention of opening it.  Pretty good.  Nice bright IPA.

Was disappointed I wasn't able to get Institution Ales IPAs for the month.  The store that usually carries them was out.

Missed drinking it in July by a day, but this was quite good.

Damnit!

So at this point, it’s not safe to buy an IPA unless it specifically says West Coast.  Even from a local brewery
