Yesterday we went to Hershey Park for the kiddo. Near the amusement park there were plenty of breweries we could go for dinner. I chose Tattered Flag bc it was close, had a brewery and distillery, I’ve had one memorable packaged beer from them, and had food that fit the needs of me, my wife, and my kiddo.

After looking over the dozen beer taps, I chose their scotch (wife got the bourbon). While the spirits were decent but sweet, I figured that I should try at least one beer. After scrolling past the numerous IPAs, the 7% radler (?), or anything kettle soured, I picked the kolsch.

What a pile of crap. DMS to the max. They got me. Those fuckers got me.

I visited Lydian Stone near York on my way home from a disc golf tournament on Saturday.  I also tried their Kolsch.  It was also garbage.
And so was their version of Two Hearted.  The NEIPA was very drinkable, thankfully.

It's a good one.

Seemed pretty fruity, dunno if that's all Kölsch yeast, or there was some hop voodoo at work.

Pretty good.  A little more hop funk than I'm used to in a Pils.  Has kind of a funny tingly zest on the top of the tongue.  Otherwise a pretty clean pils.

Untitled Art Cripsy Pilsner.  Pretty good.  Apparently it is a mostly traditional pils with the addition of some Strata hops, which I get mostly as a touch of fruitiness on top what is otherwise a solid traditional pils.  I kind of dig it.  At $8/4-pack (of 12oz cans) it’s very reasonably priced as well.

A much more traditional Pils.

"The year is 2020. We are Riven, splintered and divided in the wake of a global pandemic.  There are different opinions and uncertainties of how our economy will recover: we are grateful to still have the opportunity to make beer we love to drink.  May this classic Czech Pilsner bring you a little refreshment in an otherwise chaotic world.  Bold hop character from the noble variety Czech Saaz balances seamlessly with notes of bread and toasted biscuit from the Pilsner malt.  Refreshingly crisp, full, and flavorful."

Occidental has been doing a collab series of Northwest Pilsners.  Just had the new version which is a collab with ForeLands brewery. This is a new brewery from one of the original brewers from The Commons which was a big hit around here but closed down. They've been doing some great stuff just on their own.

Made in collaboration with ForeLand Beer, this Northwest Pilsner is a single-hop lager brewed with Adeena™, a new Yakima Valley variety with floral and spicy characteristics common to noble hops. With several hop additions throughout the brew, this beer has a layered yet smooth hop complexity.

i'm not good at putting this stuff in words but i can't see myself with anyone else except maybe urbanhack.

Had these two last night.  The Palio was ok.  The "There does not exist" pilsner was super crisp.  Will definitely buy that one again.  My favorite of the month so far.

Picked up a sixer of Minoqua Brewing Bernie Brew today, mostly for the novelty factor.  It's a 4% American Lager - pale straw color with a head that dissipates almost immediately.  Clean, refreshing.  Definitely a beer to drink cold.  Pretty good lawnmower beer, except for the price tag ($11) - that alone would prevent me from buying it again.  Too many better options for less money.

Followed up with a Potosi Czech-style Pilsner.  5.5% ABV.  Golden color.  Grainy, mineral taste up front quickly followed by a crisp hop bitterness.  May be just a touch too much sweetness for a Pils, but overall I like this one a lot.

Picked up a 4pack of Tucher Nürnberger Lager Hell from Whole Foods today.   7$ for a four pack of German Beer?  Yeah, I’ll try that.

I mean to get a picture but before I knew it, the 4 pack was gone.  Oops.

I’ll probably buy it again, especially at this price.

Rhino Chasers Pilsner and Meridian Kolsh from Lost Rhino.  Both extremely quaffable, but the Meridian was superior.

Krombacher Pils - pretty good, although got a few hints of lightstruck skunky flavor (despite the brown bottle). Cans FTMFW

Keller Clown - Hallertau Mittelfruh hopped Kellerbier
Anvil & Forge, Springfield, IL

Not bad, not great. Hazy orange, grainy, yeast forward. Pretty simple without a lot of depth.

In Imgur, first tap the photo, then tap the circle at the bottom that appears with a "copy link" option. That grabs the direct link to the pic.

Weihenstephaner Original Premium last night. Very nice but I'm wondering if it was a bit old.  Even in a brown bottle it seemed a touch lightstruck.

Weihenstephaner has a bottled on date on the back label.

I'm looking at one I drank the other day - 9440

9 represents the 9th day whether it be the 9th, 19th or 29th of the month

44 represents the 44th week of the year.

0 represents the year.

Hence, it was bottled on October 29th, 2020.

4021 on mine, so January 14, 2021?  Not terribly old.

Not 100% sure if it was lightstruck or just the flavor of the hops. Some of the noble varieties can be a little earthy.  Would love to find it canned or on tap.

This brewery is really taking off!!!  Went in for a different beer and saw this Kolsch.  Best I have had in a while (not that I have had a lot).  Really solid brew from an up and coming brewery.

Really been loving the monthly beers by the way.  Forcing me to look for stuff I don't usually buy.

Stopped by Warbler Brewing, a new-to-me 1+ year old brewery in Delmar, a southerly suburb of Albany.  They had a pils that was stupid crushable - 100% Hallertau Mittelfruh, straightforward and delicious.  He's putting out a summer pils that uses a malt that keeps some of the hops in suspension, but he's using Saphir, and a dash of Citra.  Not sure if I would call it a pils, more of a kellerbier, but fuck it was refreshing even before it was carbonated.  1/2 mile off one of my favorite rail trails too.

Drank a Dovetail Pilsner yesterday. Such a regular occurrence, I don't ever think to post about it.

Missed June by a few days, put picked up my first batch of New Glarus Kid Kolsch today.

92 degrees and humid today, and I knocked down 4 of these already. Very refreshing. :ale:

I'm having a hard time moving on.  This month I realized how much I really like Kolsch.  Also still have a lot of Pils I just picked up on a trip.

Same here :D

Finally found some Goldfinger cans, Lager and Pils. Very good, though I still give the edge to Dovetail. Just drank a random new Czech lager I found this weekend, Ceska Koruna.
