Hmm, upsetting: Bud Light seems to think we want Toasted Marshmallow seltzer.
Bud Light Seltzer's new Fall Flannel variety pack sparks concern and dismay.

 :-X

At some point they're going to get nailed for marketing this crap to minors.
I guess that Super Bowl commercial from a few years ago about not making pumpkin and peach beer doesn’t apply to their seltzer.

Seriously. Fucking hypocrites capitalists.

The wife would love the root beer flavor.
I finally got this for my root beer loving, hard seltzer drinking wife. She drank one can and thinks the rest need to be dumped down the drain.

Got word from the local TTB authorized recycling place that they have 1000 truckloads of seltzer coming to destroy that's out of code. :o

Beginning of the end? :excited: I could see those trucks getting hijacked by thirsty college kids.

One of the better SNL skits in recent memory. They should bring back the fake commercials schtick.

Is SNL funny again?

Not really.  There are a few gems here or there but never 90 mins worth.  This was a one-off from the writers who also have their own sketch group. Nobody in this sketch is in the official cast.

Just discovered this thread.  Lot of opinions in here.

Tried some hard seltzers for the first time a few weeks ago and had two main thoughts.  First, I didn't feel bloated like I do when I drink beer.  Second, as pointed out in this thread, why does everything have to be flavored so extreme?  The black cherry tasted like nighttime cough medicine.  I think I would enjoy these from time to time if I could find some with less sweetener and more subtle flavoring.

Side note: A friend gave me a THC infused seltzer from Pabst.  It was great.

:goodposting:

I also don't understand why the flavors can't be more subtle and natural.  And why I can't get a 12-pack with only citrus flavors.  Every single mix pack has at least one dud like a black cherry.

One brand that somehow does not have a hard seltzer: Lacroix

If they made one that tastes like Grapefruit Lacroix with a shot of vodka in it I would drink the shit out of it in summertime.  This really seems like a no brainer.

Wonder how many millions they could've made by now? :$: Talk about dropping the ball.

I think it's substantially easier for a booze company to transition into seltzer than it is for a seltzer company to transition to hard seltzer.

I think this is another company making it and just using the Topo name, but you'd think anyone could have figured it out with so much money on the line.

For the brands that aren't macro breweries, I think the majority is being contract brewed anyway.

It's as easy as every other brand name slapping their name on a can. Sonic, JC Penney, etc.

Yeah, but those brands have nothing to lose, while La Croix is the defacto standard for their market.

I'd argue that their brand recognition is more valuable since they are a market standard, therefor more lost growth/profit potential. No reason why they can't make NA and hard seltzer simultaneously.

Edit: Ironically, La Croix was created by G. Heilman Brewery.

there are less overly flavored ones out there. Stillwater made some that didn't even have flavor added.  They just fermented the shit out of grapes.

The lack of bloat is nice. Am I old for saying that?

Overall? Yes. Relative to this group?  Probably not.

I had a White Claw raspberry tonight.  I was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was.

Part of this is that it's owned by Coke so they likely have a bigger bankroll of resources.

"Boston Beer planned to crush millions of cases of hard seltzer before they went stale, as the company reported third quarter losses."

And people wonder why there's a can shortage...

I know this is a seltzer thread and we had a kombucha thread elsewhere (maybe OT) but I bought a mix pack of Flying Embers Kombucha for the wife (and a bit for me).  No carbs at all and the same idea of about 100 calories per 12oz of 5% abv.

As I get older, it is hard to not to be impressed by the low carbs and calories for something that actually tastes better to me than most of the hoppy, hazy, fruity, kettle soured, milkshake, and overly adjunct-y brews that fill up the selves. There are still definitely worthwhile beers but I see no reason to drink something like this:

Honestly all the kombucha i’ve tried tasted like vinegar. If there’s a better option out there i’d try it.

For me it is the opposite, every alcohol craft kombucha I have tried previously was full of sweeteners. While full of artificial flavors, Flying Embers had mined every bit of the sugar for the alcohol. The Pineapple Chili was fun.

In my limited sampling, I haven't tried that brand. Unity Vibration was the only one that comes to mind, a handful from Whole Foods back in the day. WF was also selling a purportedly natural "beet Kvass" that was horrible, and I love beets.

Still think this thread title says Alka Seltzer every time I see it.
