Great Taste 2021
« on: March 10, 2021, 11:02:50 AM »
So you're saying there's a chance?

Quote
Great Taste Fans,

Current guidelines established by Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) restrict outdoor gatherings that serve refreshments to only 100 individuals. Obviously, this is a far cry from our annual turnout of 10,000 beer fans, volunteers, vendors, brewers and staff. With this information, we are hopeful, but not optimistic about holding the Great Taste of the Midwest in 2021.

We are closely monitoring the evolving situation and working with the Madison Parks Department and PHMDC in an effort to gain information, determine timelines and health measures needed if we are allowed to proceed with this year’s festival. My festival staff is the best in the business and we will work tirelessly to ensure your comfort, safety and enjoyment if large gatherings are eventually permitted.

It’s a long shot at this point, but we are retaining positive attitudes and hope to see you at Olin park for the Great Taste of the Midwest 2021.

Jason Walters
Chairman
Great Taste of the Midwest

I ended up drinking 9 times my body weight in beer, broke three glasses over my head, 7 over others, ordered up 17 hookers for a little afterparty, held a cabbie hostage while running his cab through the Madison capitol doors, and I grabbed gator's ass.

I mean, they'd only have to send about a six-pack each and we'd have plenty.

Last year, Jaime and I made plans with @JettaKnight and his wife to go up for a weekend - first looked at Taste weekend and then delayed it a couple of times. But ended up canceling.

I think this year, Taste or no, we'll likely plan to head up there some time in August/September unless the world goes completely to shit. Hoping at minimum New Glarus has their beer garden open again.

Sadly, NG closed to the public until October  :sadbanana:

Which also throws into question our traditional lunch stop at Baumgartners in Monroe for braunschweiger sammiches.

Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Fest is cancelled https://www.mibeer.com/Resources/News/annual-michigan-brewers-guild-summer-festival-announcement  This is probably the closest corollary to GTMW as far as size, venue and date.

Someone in a local homebrew club said they heard tickets will be severely limited for GTMW.

some of the AL crew mentioned they are gonna try to make it, so what the hell, I might just take a stab at tickets as well... while Murphadam suggested they might be more limited, I have to wonder if its mail in only, are they still going to try and favor local folks somehow as the in person sales do?  it'll be interesting to see what happens, but hell, might as well give it a shot.

Less volunteers too I'd expect. Hoping it is closer to 3,500 tickets up for grabs. So pumped!  :ale:

They are limiting to 100 breweries, just so everyone knows.  I probably shouldn't post their selection process, but will say that the average beer won't be as good IMO.

So focusing on the old reliable past veteran spots who have done the same thing for the past 25 years? Nice.

Yeah, like when Sean and Mike would come down with 3 1/6 bbls and they would be blown by 2:30pm (so they could go and enjoy the rest of the day  ;D).

Makes sense.  2019 had 190 breweries and they are basically cutting everything in half.

What?! I'm going to be camping with a 100,000 dirty hippies in September (Bonnaroo) and they can't open a measly open air biergarten?

And, you don't find places like Baumgartner's by going to same place every year.

Gregg’s check was returned uncashed. I see no activity in my checking account, but haven’t gotten my rejection letter yet

I ended up drinking 9 times my body weight in beer, broke three glasses over my head, 7 over others, ordered up 17 hookers for a little afterparty, held a cabbie hostage while running his cab through the Madison capitol doors, and I grabbed gator's ass.

My check arrived, uncashed, in my mailbox today. ISO 1.
My friends say I'm like doing the laundry and forgetting the bleach: I'm not as bright as I could be.

Got our check back today :kicksrock: ISO 2 tickets, if someone wants to fire up that thread.

We're planning to be up there for the weekend anyway; worst-case, this may just mean drinking downtown on Saturday

My thoughts exactly.  For me it's always been the people more than the fest. otel booked, if no fest there are gonna be some great beers at bars that are half empty.
