My wife has offered to buy a snowblower, and doesn't understand why I don't use our leaf blower.  I prefer the manual labor of both of these chores.  It's almost zen-like, especially shoveling.

Yah, see, up here I'd be "fucked directly up the ass" without a leaf blower.

I have 0.8 acres of Nicolet National Forest. The natural ground cover up here is a form of "moss" or "lichen". There is virtually no "grass" (as we have come to know it) up here.

A rake will rip out the moss, which takes decades or even centuries to grow. I don't wish to disturb the natural ground cover of my property, where ever possible.

But I DO have to "rake" MOUNTAINS of leaves into a compost pile, for fire control. The lawn and leaf blower works great for that.

I think next year I will buy an electric blower though, to minimize the STINK of the operation, if nothing else. I come in the cabin and my clothes reek of blower exhaust.

Beer related? Try the Founders Underground Mountain Imperial Brown Ale with Sumatra Coffee.

It's excellent.

No, no, now that deer hunting season is over I'm at peace (once again) with my whitetail neighbors.

They've been digging, like crazy, at my compost pile, attempting to extract the last of last fall's acorns.

The snowplow nailed a fat doe the other day and threw her up alongside the road about a half mile from my house.

If I was THAT DESPERATE for venison I'd probably go see if there was anything left of her.

Or I could EASILY poach one in my yard, with the crossbow.

We need a Joe Rogan jif stat.

But, I do love me some venison. And not the commercial stuff which often tastes off. I wish I had more friends that hunt.

I, of course, have two snowblowers (one large, one small) but if the snow isn't too heavy or deep I prefer to shovel.

It's quieter, more relaxing, and good exercise, without the stink and noise of even a four-stroke snowblower.

My wife has offered to buy a snowblower, and doesn't understand why I don't use our leaf blower.  I prefer the manual labor of both of these chores.  It's almost zen-like, especially shoveling.

There's nothing more peaceful than the way that snow just drowns out all of the background noise.

To keep this slightly beer related, that Mackinac fudge KBS is amazing.
I like a leaf blower in the fall (mine's electric) but I also like to shovel when it's only a couple inches deep and/or powdery stuff.

I have a big snowblower for when (if, the last couple years) we get several inches of heavy stuff though.

What are these snowblower things you guys are talking about? Plowing snow has become one of my favorite pass times. Warm truck, good podcast, grateful neighbors, hot coffee, nice cigar. What more could you ask for? Just need more damn snow.

My company used to have an office in Overland Park.  When I went there to work on their network, I asked everyone what the best BBQ joint in the area was.  They basically all agreed that it was [redacted].

My coworker and I went there and were appalled that their sauce was basically ketchup.  It was completely disgusting and I may never eat KC BBQ again.

I'd like to lodge a complaint about listing styles on beers.  If it just says IPA, I expect some bitterness, not a NEIPA.  I guess with the amount of NE/Hazy IPAs on the market now, breweries should list West Coast IPA, NEIPA, whatever.  I just want to know what the hell I'm buying.

My eyes hurt even trying to find the styles on most of the cans, nowadays. Frankly, I've thrown in the towel. If I cannot tell the style right way, I simply scroll past.

I am getting pretty close to quitting.  Drinking beer ain't fun when it doesn't taste right. I haven't bought beer in about two months I think. Maybe longer, I have no clue. I have some beers that are not Dark Lord and later this week I will buy some porter so we will see.

My wife tells me that I threaten to quit beer every few months. But then I actually drink beer that I like instead of new beer and I fall back in love. Our lambic thread really helps bc most regular lambic is awesome and I need to keep being reminded that I can just drink that instead of new beer.

Also, this recent smoked lager from a local brewery makes me happy.

I have stopped, period, buying anything hoppy produced in this part of the country. Pass on all kettle sours and most pastry stouts. Better this way. Need to find some porters as well.

Yeah, agree.  Most of my locals are happy to pour a few samples, which is about as much kettle-sour or pastry-whatever I feel like drinking anyway.  "Yeah, that's really interesting.  I'll have the Vienna Lager."

You would think so!  I have had a few beers and really don't eat much red meat anyway and yes wine seems okay but it is just too pricey.  Spirits are the worst as I can only really pick out if the spirit has peat.  Rum also has an odd taste now.  Haven't tried brandy or mezcal yet.

Not only have I cut out drinking and maintained my consumption of red meat in the Month of January I did not buy any sweets or pastries or eat out more than twice.   All food I ate I prepared except for like five meals.  Guess what?  I did not lose ANY weight!

Damn. :( Certain beers, or all beers?

Malties and hoppies are off but sours seem okay.  I CAN STILL DETECT THP!!!

Strangely, looking through some post covid notes, Lambics and American wilds seem okay(the american wild ales seem one note, however it is only two breweries) and that Dark Lord was good but all that time I did not detect any oxidization.  I recently had some Port and the same thing happened.  I don't think I can pick it up anymore.

My notes for whiskey are weird, too.  Bourbon seems to be fine but just not Scotch, Irish whiskey or rum. In fact, the three bourbons I reviewed were pretty great.

Yeah, I try to get beers based on brewery descriptions, but out here pretty much everything is getting hazy.  I go to breweries and ask "Are any of your IPAs West Coast style?" Then invariably try the one that they say has "some bitterness"

Some are reliably bitter - Flower Owlet, Common Roots Last Light (cannot remember the last time they brewed that), Three Head The Kind, Smutty Finestkind and Wolf Hollow District 6 but the fact that I can list them with all of the other beers out there...  :(
My friends say I'm like doing the laundry and forgetting the bleach: I'm not as bright as I could be.

Bells Hopslam smells way more hoppy than it tastes and it sure as hell isn’t bitter.

I don’t regret buying it and I’ll probably buy some more.

But I sort of hoped to be more “Slammed” by “Hops”.

Sure do miss (draft) Palate Wrecker.

Can we get a OMYAB emoticon?

You sit there with your four-pack of lactose-infused fruit sludge, spiked with donut holes and pumpkin spices, and your trembly lower lip, because a smoked beer is too weird, too polarizing?

Lew Bryson....wow.....there's a name I haven't heard in decades.

I remember Lew and I got into it one time on BA. I thought he was mocking me (and my professed adoration of German lager) when he was actually agreeing with me.

Then we became pals.

Hmmmmm. Schlenkerla....got four (4) 500mL specimens in the DBF strangely calling my name now.

Today I saw a Chocolate Chipotle Doppelbock.

      :hot: :hot: :hot:

Are there not enough chocolate beers nowadays? Are we not just coming out of the peak season for chocolate stouts?  I could understand the chipotle as an experimental take but is there someone out there that drinks a Doppelbock and wonders how it would taste with chocolate and chipotle?

This leads to the inevitable sour lactose fruit sludge Doppelbock.
