3 Sheeps Brewing:

This Friday we introduce our newest pastry stout - Does Not Compute. Inspired by dark chocolate key lime pie, this beer is a study in delicious contrasts. You'll find flavors of sweet graham cracker crust, bittersweet dark chocolate and a tart, key lime finish. One taste and you'll definitely be looking for seconds.

Today I saw a Chocolate Chipotle Doppelbock.

Whoever brewed that should be dragged out into the street and shot.

      :hot: :hot: :hot:

Are there not enough chocolate beers nowadays? Are we not just coming out of the peak season for chocolate stouts?  I could understand the chipotle as an experimental take but is there someone out there that drinks a Doppelbock and wonders how it would taste with chocolate and chipotle?

This leads to the inevitable sour lactose fruit sludge Doppelbock.
If the brewery also put out a straight d-bock, I'd be (somewhat) OK with the experiment.  If everything you brew has to have a "with" I start to wonder what you're trying to hide.

It was fun when only one brewery did it.  But the model is what Shorts and Southern Tier did over a decade ago multiplied by about a thousand.

Right, i'm just saying what's old is new again. Not even an original idea. Sure it's being amplified into bizarre new franken-booze concoctions, but after awhile these fads disappear, just like Shorts & ST's novelty beers did.

I visit a local brewpub about once a month to pick up growlers to schlorp down during the weekend.

Last time I went I ordered a Festbier and told them that their Lagers are the best in the land hands down.

The bartender looks at me and says "We're well known for our hazy IPA's, but we always win medals for our Lagers."

I look back at her and say "Hazy Ipa's" then give her the biggest "eye roll" she ever experienced north of the mason-dixon line.

She let out the biggest smile and didn't say a thing as we "high-fived".

That's my "old men yell at beer" experience.

There's a brewery here that buys a ton of Count Chocula and brews a beer every year. I've never had it because it sells out instantly.

That also reminds me of a story I heard once of an arctic exploration boat that figured out they could brew something beer-like by putting crushed cereal (Cheerios maybe?) in the basket of a coffee pot.

A few years ago at the end of Great Taste, there was somebody near our camp with "Stout Chocula" and then also "Ghost of Stout Chocula". I chose the latter as my final beer of the day - not even thinking what the "Ghost" part meant.

Is anyone flaunting their ability to make a fake lambic? At least lie to me, don't pretend like its a brett beer because you can produce certain esters that mimic pineapple. I can just make a pineapple beer and also pretend its brett.

Actually, I once brewed a Brett C pale ale with pineapple. I think that is one of the best beers I ever made.

Trinity I guess. “7 Day Gueuze” or whatever that kettle soured bs was. Mostly I mean when commercial breweries call their wild ale or kettle-sour “lambic”, or cherry beer “kriek”. One I saw recently said their “lambic” was soured with blueberry jam.

Introducing CHEF GOLDBLUM - Imperial Cake Batter Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels. While our scientists were busy thinking if they could, never once did we ask if they should. Here we are.
The Force is what gives a brewer his power. It's an energy field created by yeast. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It converts polysaccharides to ethyl alcohol.

Plenty of fake lambic out there too...

Bakes' homebrew lambic is pretty legendary around here.

Smelly's is no slouch either.

Decoman probably still has a bottle of Smelly beer somewhere.

There are definitely some that have not aged well.....

I'm still so confused how the results you're reporting could even be possible. You need to come visit some time so we can see if it was an isolated bottle.

Side note, I've never referred to any of my sour beers as lambic, though I did call one a kriek I guess.

You're good. Kriek just means "cherry", and it's too common to be a protected term, afaik only "oude kriek" is. I mentioned it earlier because it's probably the most misused word in the lambic family. Any beer with cherries ≠ kriek lambic.

It's been more than an isolated bottle.  Hopefully will be coming this summer!

All the same beer though, right?

I drove into town today (Friday) to pick up my weekly case of Weihenstephaner Pilsner. You know, before all the dirty, filthy, diseased down-staters come up here for the weekend.

Tossed my case in the cart and was looking for my usual "something else" to add to the weekly beer supply.

HFS, you guys were right. Hazy this and hazy that. That new Lemon Haze Leinenkugels somebody was talking about.

Typically, all I can get besides my Weihenstephaner is maybe a big Founders beer, like KBS or one of the variants. Pretty well stocked with those though.

Tossed in an 8-pack of Guinness Draught in cans. Got a craving for one of those.

Didn't buy none of that hazy shit. Wouldn't know WTF I was buying anyway.

Took a drive along Highway 180, along the Menominee River that divides Wisconsin from the UP of Michigan. The river is still mostly frozen; nowhere to toss in a line yet.

Ended up in the Town of Wausaukee, home of 575 smiling Wisconsin faces. Wanted SO BAD to stop at the local tavern for a burger and a beer.

Headed back home to Crooked Lake, Wisconsin, on this gorgeous, sunny, 45 degree March day.

Life could be worse.
Poor unfortunate elderly isolated beer god.

Standard hazy IPAs are pretty tasty.  They are hoppy without the bitterness.

Any recommendations? For the past calendar year I’ve been obsessed with:

Sound the dread alarm, through the primal body.
Sound the reveille to be or not to be.
Rise, stay the grand finale.
Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue.
One drive, to stay alive.
It’s elementary. Muster every fiber.
Mobilize.
Stay alive.
