Local place here definitely puts them in crowlers.  I hadn’t seen cans before I don’t think.

Here's one: Not every big beer has to go in a fucking bourbon barrel.

Saw that a local brewpub has an English Barleywine - cool! But it's bourbon barrel aged.  Which is fine, but it seems like pretty much every BW, imperial stout, old/strong ale, etc. that I see crop up from my local breweries has spent a few months in a bourbon or other barrel.

I'd love to see breweries that are doing this hold back a portion of the beer and just stash a sixtel in the back of the cooler.

This would be a brilliant side-by-side with the barrel aged version. I agree though that everything doesn't need barrel time.

The primary reason I bought a bottle of Criminally Bad Elf this year is because its the first English Barleywine I can remember seeing on the shelf in the last couple years that wasn’t barrel aged.

I’m now seeing pastry barleywines. Is there no end to this evilness?!?!?

I just picked up a regular old barleywine(posted about it in the big beer thread). But it feels like it’s become a less popular style and when it is being made barreling and adjunct additions are more common.

I bought a 4-pack of Adroit Theory's Negation RIS this weekend.  The bartender looked at me weird and said, "oh, our base beer..."

Left unsaid was "why the hell would you want this unflavored beer?"

I'd love to see breweries that are doing this hold back a portion of the beer and just stash a sixtel in the back of the cooler.

So I picked up a bottle (haven't opened yet) and talked to the brewer (and got a draft sample). It was like the 6th beer that went through that barrel, so there's basically zero bourbon character.  Maybe a slight touch of drying tannin from the oak, which honestly isn't unwelcome in a beer with that much residual sugar.

Need to figure out a day with not much else going on when I can enjoy 22 oz of 15% beer.  Jaime will try a little, so really just 21.5 oz.

I also proposed they package off some of their beers before going in the barrel and he thought that was a good idea. He agreed it would make for an interesting side-by-side.

Logistically it's going to depend somewhat on batch vs barrel size.  They're really small - the kettle is 50 gallons, so they're looking at more like 45 max if they don't want a boil-over.  So if they have a standard 53-gallon barrel, they'd have to do 2 smaller batches and plan for leftovers.

Gen Z drinks bud light seltzer.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that the 30-something beer drinker is the main driver of craft beer right now.

One of the best reaction gifs on the internet.
Give a man a beer, and he'll waste an hour

Teach him to brew, and he'll waste a lifetime

Coming soon from Badger State ...

Sweet Tooth's Unite! Our Candy Bar Almond Porter is a collab with Seroogy's and the first brew in our Sweet Genius Series.

Brewed with Seroogy's Almond Meltaway Bars, Shaved Almonds, and Raw Cocoa this delightfully dark nectar is the perfect after dinner beer!

The Founders Mackinac Maple Fudge Stout I drank the other day is probably the closest I'll ever come to a "candy bar beer".

Weirdly / oddly, after being outside all morning shoveling snow I enjoy a beer like that.

I, of course, have two snowblowers (one large, one small) but if the snow isn't too heavy or deep I prefer to shovel.

It's quieter, more relaxing, and good exercise, without the stink and noise of even a four-stroke snowblower.

In addition, the snowblower tends to scare the deer away, who tend to stroll through my yard on quiet winter days.

They seemed to enjoy the carrot peels I put out for them the other day. If you're quiet and don't make any threatening movements toward them they will come incredibly close.

No Founders Mackinac Maple Fudge Stout for them though.
Poor unfortunate elderly isolated beer god.

My wife has offered to buy a snowblower, and doesn't understand why I don't use our leaf blower.  I prefer the manual labor of both of these chores.  It's almost zen-like, especially shoveling.

There's nothing more peaceful than the way that snow just drowns out all of the background noise.

To keep this slightly beer related, that Mackinac fudge KBS is amazing.
