BREWERS COMBINE THREE PHILOSPHERS AND SPEEDWAY STOUT
« on: October 19, 2020, 08:34:24 AM »
This is a new gimmick
https://thefullpint.com/beer-news/brewers-combine-three-philosphers-and-speedway-stout-to-create-philosphy-and-velocity/

At first I was excited. Than I realized that each brewer is  making their own version of the other’s blend. Like, what the heck is an “American ale variant on Three Philosophers” and I can’t imagine Ommegang can make something as good as Speedway. Seems like they won’t even use coffee. Plus, I find Three Philosophers a shell if it’s former self (I used to love it back in the day).

Seems like this would have gone over better 10-12 years ago.

I can blend these myself and probably end up with a mix that is more interesting than what this will be.

I will try this.  Mostly because I've been drinking both beers for decades, and I feel like I just "should".  I agree, 3 Philosophers isnt what it used to be, its just "sweet" now.  And I swear Speedway got sweeter as well.
Should we take a cab home, Jesus?
Shit man, we can hoof it from here.
I know you can walk on water...
But can you walk on this much beer?

I had an imperial stout that used a Belgian yeast way back when that was phenomenal (can't remember what it was for the life of me, Captain Lawrence maybe?). First thing I thought when I saw this, doesn't sound like what they're doing though.

Yeah, I am a fan of Belgian Imperial Stouts. And this does not sound like that, which is disappointing.

Now you got me thinking about Belgian Imperial Stouts I've enjoyed in the past:
Alvinne Podge
t Smisje Catherine The Great

De Dolle Extra Export Stout (picked up one recently)
Ellezelloise Hercule Stout
Troubadour Obscura

might be a good style choice for jan-feb-march
