There are so few Tripels and the American ones, imo, stink so let us go with dark lagers.

What he said.

I never, ever, tasted a domestic Tripel that didn't suck.

I sure do adore me some Tripel, don't get me wrong. But once you've had St. Bernardus and Maredsous and Westmalle and maybe a few others the rest of them SUCK.

I have a local tripel sitting in my fridge from a "mediocre at best" brewery.  Fully expecting it to suck but will give it a shot

I still have two New Belgium Tripel in the DBF.

The first four were like.......eh......these are OK......I guess. Then that dirty Emerge fella turned me onto Belgian Happiness (BH).

That's why I still have two New Belgium Tripel in the DBF.

Kolsch

Am I the only one who always hears this word in my head pronounced exactly the same as the old "Buuusssssschhhhhh" commercials?

Kolsch
Really hard to find more than 1-2 commercial examples around here.

Not that there's a cornucopia of Saison options either...

Agreed!!!  I love it but I think I would struggle to find it.  Saison's have been growing in popularity around here so they are a little easier.

We could do all three but if that is too many maybe limit the country of origin for all three.

Since we have no shortage of months, I don’t think we need to combine styles.

I’d recommend holding off on Kolsch till early summer when the faux kolschs are abundant.

I do like the idea of picking either Pils or Saison and sticking to a country. Like Belgian Saisons or American pilsners (or German Pilsners). Similarly, if we pick American Saisons I’d be in favor (also not a biggie) to make it narrower category like no adjuncts, fruit, or barrel aging. Or Brett Saisons.

No Brett Saisons? :o: I’d rather keep the category broad to make it easier for people to participate, and see more variety in the thread.

I'd be more for narrowing it down if most of the local shops weren't overrun by IPAs.  It's getting harder and harder to find different beers around here.

No adjuncts seems fine, as the monthly style threads are generally a "back to basics" exercise. At least so far...

Are we still going with Saison? I am down despite some of the difficulty of finding them.

I am a little out of the beer stuff recently and for the next week or so but hopefully we can decide and start a new thread.

Bocks? IDK where the discussion went, but pretty sure this was the consensus.

Bocks, Helles Lagers, American Pale Ale, Berliner Weisse, Kolsch.  A Kolsch is going to be harder to find but I like them.  I'm up for whatever.  I had a harder time finding Saisons than I thought I would.  Only two years back there were a lot more available.

Just an idea but we can do anything. May was a nice time to drink some bocks. I think Anchor used to release a bock on May 1. If we went this way, how expansive should it be?

Traditional darker bocks?
Lighter helles/heller/mai bocks?
Weizenbocks?
Doppelbocks?
Eisbocks?

Perhaps save the weizenbocks for some other wheat centric month? Of course, we have had a lot of overlapping styles, which I think makes it fun.

More is more, is my philosophy. :ale: :banned:

I've got a few different ones already, and was planning to pick up a local Maibock or two as well.

Maybe I read too much into this post in the beer talk thread:

Sadly I don’t think there are enough bocks on the shelf for us to be picky.  I’d say all bocks.

I had saved 1 can of helles bock from Bingo (local brewery) just for this thread, then my wife went and drank it.  :hot:
