instead of everyone moving in an orderly fashion and 6k people being through the gate in 5 minutes, he's going to be frisking everyone personally. starting at 1 pm.

Yeah that'll work for five minutes until some pissed off hairy shirtless dude with a pretzel necklace kicks him hard in the gonads.
I’ll be the first in line to run his ass over Pamplona-style. Fuuuuck that guy :bird:

Donna and I are staying at the MainStay Suites south of the Beltline off Stoughton. Stayed at the Sleep Inn in the same area several years back just after it opened and it was excellent so chose the sister property this time. Plus it's a short walk to Toby's Supper Club which was fabulous for a post-fest nosh.

Same here. Could we coordinate a TBS meetup time? Maybe coincide with cheese-offing?

When the program/map are released, how about we target a couple of locations to set things up, too? Will the official cheese-off table be there?

Murphadam will have to confirm the table, he brings it every year. The map is oot, haven’t looked at it yet though. Hope they didn’t change the campsite areas again.

map

Some years we've snagged a spot near the MHGT logo there outside the 200 tent (or back toward Real Ale along that road) but it really gets packed early now.

The spot we ended up in last year was I think by the F11/F12 food symbols, but there weren't food vendors there last year, so there might not be as much room.

I think there's usually an area by the Real Ale tent with room for chairs, but it just feels so ordinary over there.

We'll have the table! I think Earlybird Joe usually winds up south of the 200 or 300 tents. That's a great spot if we can swing it.

Yeah, great central location.  Does somebody have a bright colored TBS shirt we could put on the table for visibility?

Or is there still a group text app to use?

Yeah the trick is to get the table and something visible both in there together and early for the rest of us to look for.

I'm going to get my employee who is working to set up some chairs for me before the masses enter.  I'm thinking by the lake side in between the 100 and cask tent (as far away from the port-o-johns as possible as well).

I’ll ask Joe if he can put something visible out once they set up camp. He’s always at the front of the line.

The Force is what gives a brewer his power. It's an energy field created by yeast. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It converts polysaccharides to ethyl alcohol.

Same, wasn't hungover but wasn't 100% either.

I sought out more pilsener and lager this year, they all seemed to run together though. Most were good to very good, New Oberpfalz Helles stood out. Best hoppy was Hop Butcher Unwind Your Mind, which i've had before. Best sour beer was either NG Kriek/Vintage '18 or Mobcraft Sour Golden Ale (surprisingly). Most refreshing award to 2nd Shift On Cue.
Thanks to Initiative for the NG Sour Blackberry. A big highlight for me was chatting about lambic breweries with Dan Carey. :nerd:

Urban Artifact's fruit bombs really stood out - all 4 were killer, especially the raspberry and guava/passionfruit/banana - it was like a perfect tropical tiki drink.

NG kriek for sure.  Half Acre's Double Benthic was I think the only stout I had all day and it was worth it.  A dry liquid mounds bar.  Lions Bridge in Iowa had a great mild as a change of pace.  Off Color's sake was a happy surprise right at the end.  Bell's salty plum gose was interesting enough for me to pick up a 6-er on the way home.

definitely good times but man was i dragging today

:nerd:

What were everybody's highlights?
Urban Artifact's fruit bombs really stood out - all 4 were killer, especially the raspberry and guava/passionfruit/banana - it was like a perfect tropical tiki drink.

NG kriek for sure.  Half Acre's Double Benthic was I think the only stout I had all day and it was worth it.  A dry liquid mounds bar.  Lions Bridge in Iowa had a great mild as a change of pace.  Off Color's sake was a happy surprise right at the end.  Bell's salty plum gose was interesting enough for me to pick up a 6-er on the way home.
Urban Artifact was really good, tried 3 of the 4 (thanks to Sev & Brac). "Fire Iron" was the one with guava & banana, I had it twice b/c the tap handle said "Exhibit" and that's what I ordered the first time. Went back and ordered Fire Iron, got the same thing. :bag:

Too many lines...I skipped quite a few (Dangerous Man, Forager, New Glarus) but lined up with Ed towards the end of the fest for Half Acre and something else.

somehow i got talked in to the Off Color Sake near the end of the day. egads.

same story as every year. drank a lot of great beer. missed a lot of great beer. saw a lot of great people. missed some great people.

did like Severstad's "half a game plan, game plan" idea. thinking of going with something like that next year to at least hit some highlights.

Thanks for trusting my half-ass plan. It kinda worked.

Great seeing all of your happy faces.

As good as their beer is those guys really need to work on their naming/labeling.  "Fire Iron Midwest Fruit Tart" featuring a gun on the label in no way indicates a tropical tiki bomb to me.

isn't a tire iron for... tires?

is tire iron slang for a gun, too?

 their sake was better a couple years ago :bag:
The Good Listeners/Miscellanea/Yuzu Fierce was a good way to end things, and wash the sake out of the glass.

I agree, the names & labels seem arbitrary, as if they were stock designs or something. Fire Iron makes me think of blacksmithing.

So it's
1. Named after a gun
2. From the "Old West"
3. Made in Cincinnati as a "Midwest fruit tart"
4. With 2100 lbs of tropical fruit and no fruit from the midwest.

5.  Still f*cking delicious

6. Also holy shit that's a lot of fruit for 30 barrels of beer.

Whoah. Wonder if the abv is so high due to all the fruit sugars. "Midwest Fruit Tart"... is that the next Florida Weisse?

Sounds like, and looking like, (from pics here & FB) that it was a fabulous event with many yummy beers.

I'm a bit envious...

Hoping next year is in the cards for me.
Life without beer is too terrible to contemplate.

Biggest standout for me was Right Brain's Thai Peanut. Peanut, chili, cilantro, lime all there, but just as accents to a toasty, malty base.

Blind Pig's Umeboshi Sour was really good

That mild was on freaking point.

Also loved Metropolitan's Heliostat zwickel, New Oberpfalz Helles, Surly blood orange Axeman, 2007 Darkness (still holding up well!) and the Paletas cucumber beer form 5 Rabbits.  First time I had tried Brickstone APA, that one hit the spot.

First year that I never hit the cask tent.  :sadbanana:

I didn't hit the cask tent either and quite honestly didn't care.  Every year there is less I want in there.  I kind of wish they would use that space to get more breweries in.

I ran the gauntlet in there, tried 5. Poured out 4.
