what time should we show up at jessnick's?

should i bring the Pineapple Exhaust ?

8 still sounds good to give people time to hit up any other spots first, although we're flexible and could do earlier or later depending on how the day shakes out. Sharing beers can also be dropped off earlier in the day so you don't have to haul them around downtown.

A. Approximate time? I'll have tickets for Bakes and TT, and Jettaknight will have 2 for Fred (also for OHL but we're at the same hotel)
2. Is Rockhound Brewing any good?
Γ. There's an apartement complex called "The Dude" next door with the website "thedudeabodes.com"
How does 8pm work? Gives everyone a chance to grab dinner and check out other pre-parties first.

Haven’t heard much about Rockhound, mostly lukewarm to mediocre impressions. Funk Factory is also a mile or so down and off Park St.

I saw that sign :dude:

We've been to Rockhound a number of times. The beer is so so and the food is usually pretty good but also sometimes oddly underseasoned. It's not a must-do by any means, but it's a fine place to have dinner and will likely not be busy.

Recent article about a gin-BA IIPA from Rockhound.

Nick and I both have off from work and O will be in Appleton so just let us know when you know your ETA! We'll plan on hooking up with you/everyone for some bar hopping in the afternoon? I can DD us around.

We'll put a cooler on the back porch in case anyone needs to do a beer dropoff when we're not home.

Interesting, the wait list for breweries is over 250 now. And they instituted a lottery for new breweries this year.

starting to feel like there was an earthquake deep out in ocean waters and the tsunami that will turn the tide against GTOTM is coming

I haven't listened, but a quick count shows 195 brewery booths this year, and there's really not a lot of flat ground in the park to add another 24- or 30-booth tent (short of jettisoning the Real Ale tent) and still leave room for several thousand drunks.

That means less than half of the breweries that WANT to pour, are able to get in.  And brewery openings aren't slowing down yet (hell, they're finally starting to pick up in northern Indiana after years of just a handful of them).  At least some of those new breweries are going to add their names to that waiting list every year.

I found some stats of breweries per state as of 2017 (so already outdated).  Just within WI, MN, MI, IL and IN there were 985 breweries.  And Great Taste also draws from Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas and Nebraska. Not every one can or wants to travel to Madison to pour beer, but that's 5-6 times the number of breweries that GTOTM can currently accommodate.

Will they have to start shrinking their "footprint" (fewer states)? Or start NOT inviting everyone back (maybe this happens already?)

There are plenty who are phoning it in, but the majority (not all) of them look to be from WI. Looking at Tornado brewing with 30% “maltwine”

I get cider and mead are popular, but are they relevant at a beer fest with 250 breweries waiting to get in?

In reading the program/map I believe it mentioned the presentation tent is located "on the soccer field." If so, they're still migrating further down to create space. At some point I can see the festival grounds extending down closer to the frontage road. It's the only place to expand if they want to add more breweries and ticket holders.

One of the highlights of my weekend.

I ended up drinking 9 times my body weight in beer, broke three glasses over my head, 7 over others, ordered up 17 hookers for a little afterparty, held a cabbie hostage while running his cab through the Madison capitol doors, and I grabbed gator's ass.
