Anything new and noteworthy in Madison, beer-wise or food-wise?

Reminds me of an experience in high school.

After a Saturday morning racquetball match with my father, he brought me to a known Sheboygan gay bar for lunch. Well, I knew it was a gay bar, which I did not share with dad. Well, upon our entry, the bartender scrambled for the remote to turn off the gay porn. I saw it, and my father did not.

It was an odd lunch.

There's another new brewery near there on Park St., Rock Hound or something. Didn't sound very compelling.

Barleypop is a newer beer bar/liquor store, not the best place imo but it is new and shiny.

The one beer I have had at Rock Hound was meh at best, and hearing them talk about beer didn't fill me with confidence.

Parched Eagle is a small newer nano brewery on the far north side.

Bear and Bottle is a newer beer bar on the north side/Maple Bluff area.

Cask and Ale on state street is newer, about 40-50 beers/wine/cocktails on tap but kind of pricey.

Lucille on the square is good if you hit it during happy hour($2 off taps) gets pricey after that.

I have never been, the reviews online seem ok. It has been kind of a running joke for as long as I can remember. I want to say they got kicked out of a more downtown location a few years ago or something as it was in the news fairly often around that time.

Guess this is the ***official*** Madison thread?

Here's a recent article about a few new breweries opening now or soonish.

A couple in Sun Prairie, one off Rimrock Rd. by the Clarion , and another one by the Malt House on Winnebago St.... vaguely recall walking past this empty lot once with TBS'ers, from Dexter's to the Malt House.

I don't think Full Mile(Opens next week i guess) or Delta are open yet. Right Bauer only has 2-3 of there own beers but people seem excited for them.    Giant Jones ~ http://giantjones.com/ is still fairly new but I haven't had enough to really pass judgement. Union Corners hasn't updated anything in 6 plus weeks, and then it was basically construction has started...

Went to Giant Jones over the summer and didn't really like much that I tried. Working Draft was good but only had a couple beers, SRO in there.

That might have been my first year at the taste when I stayed at Nick and Jess’ house that was near Malt House.

That sounds right. I joined here in 2008 right before I turned 22. In 2009, I went to Dark Lord Day, did my huge TBS road trip and hit the taste.

Kinda weird the place that opened in the old Gray's space in Verona is "Boulder Brewpub", and they are selling Colorado beers. Haven't they heard of Boulder Beer Co.?

I remember the one time I went to Vintage. Their best beer was a guest tap...

Damn, didn't know about this:

Wisconsin brewers pitch in during Tom Porter’s illness

Glad to hear things are back to normal. Crazy to think Lake Louie has been around 20 years now.

Beer-based reality: Keeping track of Madison’s new crew of craft breweries and taprooms

Short rundown of what's new in Madison and who's brewing what where now. Not comprehensive though.

Quote
Union Corners Brewery, 2438 Winnebago St. - Later in the summer Puchalski will release a kvass (a Russian table beer) made with fermented rye bread from Stalzy’s.

BarleyPop Live, 121 W. Main St. - This is among a small list of local places where you will find beers from Milwaukee’s Eagle Park Brewing.

Another article about a Grisette collab between Lone Girl and Working Draft.

I was looking to see if anything was worth a detour on the way to the Dells, since the Roxbury Tavern closed (RIP).

Report back

Thought about checking our Working Draft this trip, since I haven't been there yet.  Checked their tap list online, and they have 6 IPAs   a Vienna Lager and a Grisette
