OSKAR BLUES SHIPPING BOURBON BARREL-AGED TEN FIDY CANS NATIONWIDE IN NOV., BOURBON JAVA TEN FIDY CANS TO DEBUT NOV. 4

BROOKS WHITTINGTON
SEPTEMBER 23, 2016

After a very limited release in 2015, Oskar Blues Brewery is going big with its next release of Bourbon Barrel-Aged Ten Fidy.

As with last year’s release, the 12.9 percent ABV imperial stout will be packaged in 19.2-ounce “stovepipe” cans, and has been aged in “a mixed variety” of bourbon barrels. However, unlike the 2015 incarnation, both cans and kegs will be distributed nationwide to retailers across the Longmont, Colo.-based brewery’s distribution network.

“(The beer was aged in) a mixed variety, mostly Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark and Heaven Hill along with a few other smaller distilleries from across the U.S. sprinkled in,” said Dan Wiersema, national digital media manager for Oskar Blues, in an email with Tenemu. “They were aged between 8-12 months, each release will have a blend of all.”

In 2015, Oskar Blues released cans of the barrel-aged imperial stout for the first time, although it has been available on draft as well as in crowlers in many different incarnations and aged in multiple brands of bourbon barrels over the years. Those 19.2-ounce cans were sold almost exclusively through both the Longmont, Colo. and Brevard, N.C. brewery locations, although an extremely limited number were distributed locally as well.

However, before the nationwide release in November, there will be “limited cans” available at The Oskar Blues Ordeal events taking place on Oct. 5 and Oct. 7 as well as at the Tasty Weasel Taproom in Longmont, Colo. during the Great American Beer Festival, which runs from Oct. 5 – Oct. 8. In addition, cans of both Bourbon Barrel-Aged Ten Fidy and the first release of Bourbon Java Ten Fidy in cans will be sold during launch parties at the Tasty Weasel Taproom in both Colorado and North Carolina only on Nov. 4.

In an email, Wiersema told Tenemu that the total release will be “about 800bbls of beer in cans and draft” with approximately 600bbls distributed in cans and the rest distributed in kegs. According to Chad Melis, marketing director at Oskar Blues, both are scheduled to “start showing up in the market the first week of November.”
