What time is everyone thinking they'll roll into town?  :banned:
Hopefully before noon, to grab some lunch and a modest amount of Madison beers.
If anyone has local beer/food requests, let me know

Is Jamerica as good as i am hoping it is? I always mean to stop in there when we're in town but never end up there for some reason.

Best Taste food I've ever had.  But that's not saying TOO much because I think I started getting it in Year 2 and never strayed away since then.

The catering is good. Late last year we went and sat down at the restaurant and the entire fucking meal was a train wreck. We went at what should have been the busiest time for dinner on a Friday, and at no time we were in there were more than 2 other tables of people eating. For a busy location on Willy St that alone should tell you something.

OK, so there were a couple of schlemiels eating dinner at the table next to us and they ordered some shit and they were out of it. No big deal. Anyways, we order our shit and we're waiting for it. I got the oxtail, Jess got the jerk chicken. As we're waiting, the one group of four has ordered and got their food and they ask for some hot sauce (apparently they make it in house), they bring em a squeeze bottle. After we get our food, I ask for some hot sauce as well. She ends up looking around for some, not finding any, and then asking the other if they're done with it, because it ended up taking forever for our food to come out. Well over 20 minutes. So they're done with the sauce and she brings it over to us. We start eating and half of the shit on both of our plates is cold, legitimately cool. Like they forgot to microwave it long enough. My oxtail is congealed. I can't remember if it was the vegetables or rice but one of them was lukewarm as fuck on both Jess and my plates. Her chicken was on point but the cold ass side just made the whole thing taste of shit.

My oxtail is nasty and cold. Honestly the food would be good but the temperature was so far off we figure just eat the warm shit and box up the rest, I'll eat it later. So we're halfway through most of the shit that you could eat and not barf and the schlemiels have turned over  and now it's a different table that's a couple behind us. They ordered, don't remember if they got their food yet or not but they ask for hot sauce. The waitress, who's very nice but clueless, feigns looking for some, and then delivers the bad news that they're all out of hot sauce. They're incredibly diappointed, I wish I could remember exactly what he said but it was something along the lines of "oh man, I was really looking forward to the hot sauce." The waitress comes back to our table a minute later to ask how we're doing and I hand over the hot sauce so they can enjoy some of the last third of the last bottle.

We agree that this was one of the absolute worst dining experiences we have ever experienced, from the amateurish single bottle of hot sauce, the nice but incapable waitress, the long wait for food and the lack of attention to detail in actually warming it up in some way before we were supposed to consume it. I honestly could take over that restaurant tomorrow morning and run it as well as they were on day 1.

We drove home, and it was about bedtime for OJ so we dipped through the arboretum, about a 3 mile each way/15 minute round trip wooded drive to a dead end and back that starts a couple blocks from our house. We get about 40% through the round trip and Jess is experiencing waves of nausea. She holds it in, the baby ends up falling asleep and we get home. She races in the door to the bathroom to puke for about 2 minutes. I had a brief wave of nausea on the way home but it passed relatively quickly. I am not someone who ever says "oh I got food poisoning from this bullshit" but there's no denying puking on the way home. I cannot think of another time in the past 6 years when I puked and wasn't suffering from a 24 hour stomach bug type thing. I remember I had norovirus in fall of 2012 and in february of this year we all got some 24 hour stomach flu where I mostly shit my brains out but puked once but Jess puked for about 16 hours and OJ puked about the same amount of time including once in bed.

I did finish the leftover the next day but I properly heated it up in the microwave. I didn't get sick from that. I would stick to their catering and not bother eating at the restaurant. I saw the dude who was working the kitchen and it was this nasty white dude with dreads. The whole reason we wanted to go there was because Furley forgot his leftovers last year at my dad's house great taste ticket weekend and they were delicious.

That's rough. Normally food poisoning takes a few hours to kick in but on rare occasions and under the right conditions it can hit fairly quickly. If things are like that front of house the back has to be worse. I've walked out of restaurants before the food came because of red flags.

island time!

on our vacation a few years back we waited about 2 hours for food in an all but empty (popular and highly rated) restaurant at lunchtime. shit just moves at a totally different pace.

We have been thinking about a plan and wanted to throw out the agenda of getting early dinner somewhere downtown (5pmish) and then coming back here for bottle sharing and heavy hors d'oeuvres for late night snacking. We could also hit up a bar or two, either before or after dinner, if there was any interest.

Any ideas for Madison restaurants you'd like to try? Once we figure out where and how many, I'll make a reservation.

Headcount:

TipTop
Severstad
Furlz
Emerge
Initiative
(Hack :kickrock:)
Nick
Jess
Ken-o and Linda (friends whom most of you have met at the group camp)

Anyone else? We have two spare beds upstairs (one airbed, one floor mattress) and a couch for crashing. We also reserved the two-bedroom suite in the common house for the night, so there is plenty of sleep space. What time are we thinking we'll need to line up? What time did Eric rally us last year?

Wine and Hop is .6 miles from Greenbush Bakery, which opens at 6 and would be a great place to send a couple of people to pick up a shit ton of breakfast treats to bring back to the line. http://www.yelp.com/biz/greenbush-bakery-madison

Thoughts?

I will be, now and forever, Matt's plus one.

I really don't know Madison that well but the last few years we went to two different restaurants that were excellent.  I believe one was called Fourquarter(square?) and the other was near or on the Square.

Till death do us part? :tombstone:

Forequarter is amazing but super small, and no reservations fri/sat. We had a big group there, but we showed up an hour before they opened to pull that off, IIRC. Would be up for a more casual place, you guys have a better idea of what's out there.

Heritage Tavern was the other one

Yeah I think we did 3 or maybe 330 last year, which included a 20ish min drive from Pete's house to Malt House. I thought maybe you were insinuating that we shouldn't worry about lining up too early, since your friend was fine last year at 6. Maybe we can send Sev over there at midnight as a scout and just text us when it's time.

4 sounds fine to me. or whenever.
