Last weekend's Fall Firkin Fest was seriously impressive. Ten guests and 9 Badger State firkins including:

Bourbon Barrel Maple Porter Blended with Pumpkin Ale
Pumpkin Ale with Raspberries and Cocoa Nibs
Pumpkin Ale with Coffee and Cocoa Nibs
Chocolate Stout with Blackberries and Vanilla Beans
Bourbon Barrel Stout with Brown Sugar
Chocolate Stout with Peanut Butter and Bacon
Bourbon Barrel Stout with Jalapenos
Belgian Blonde with Ginger Snaps and Cherry Brandy Oak Chips
IPA with Mango Ceylon Tea

Obviously, they're just experimenting. But, many brews were dang tasty. These guys are rocking it.    :banned:

Game day is here and we are ready to rock and roll! The Booyah Shed is outside serving food prior to the game and we have Surly in house as our visiting team beer featuring "Brett Michaels" a sour IPA.

It's Brett Mikkel's, and not really a sour IPA.  SMH

Doesn't really represent a brewery (Badger State, since Surly can't help what they say) well to not only mess up a beer name, but the style as well.

Picked up a couple of their new canned beers this weekend ...

Peninsula Pilsner

Mangotopia (IPA with mango tea)
Not a fan of their regular IPA (Green Chop), either.

Haven't tried the Buzzy Badger yet.  Not sure if Mangotopia is based on the Green Chop or not, but it tastes nothing like it at all.  There's more tea than mango in the flavor, and I wouldn't even guess it was an IPA if it didn't say so on the can. Generally, not a fan of fruit/tea/other additives, but I always liked Mango Mama form Town Hall.  It was nothing like that one.

I'm sure you'll get a chance to try it this weekend ... or I have 3 cans available.

I expect it will show up at the store, so I'll likely pick up a 4-pack.  I haven't tried it on tap, and I haven't liked most of their IPAs that I've had, but I'll give it a shot.

How many of those combinations do you think they actually tried out in R&D first?  I'm guessing pretty close to zero.

I understand throwing out one or two crazy experimental things for an event, but I'd be pissed if I paid $30 for a tickets, and there wasn't any beer without flowers or tea in it.

Emerge >  :bye:

New Brew Alert! Brewed in collaboration with @AlJohnsons Swedish Restaurant in Door County to help them celebrate their 70th Anniversary. This specialty Ale compromised of golden and caramel malts with lingonberries added at the end of fermentation.

What started as a fun idea a few years ago has finally materialized into a delicious yet still lighter style ale at 4.9%ABV. This beer does an incredible job of showcasing the Lingonberry Fruit's slight tartness with a mildly bitter and woody finish. The berry is native to the Scandinavian region of northern Europe and featured in many dishes at Al Johnson's.

Available in the Taproom starting this Thursday (6/27)!

Had one of these at Al Johnson's new outdoor beer garden today.  Pretty good, but not as tart as I was expecting.

JFC, I hope these guys are making most of their money through distribution.

Stopped by the taproom after work for about an hour, and there were 3 bartenders standing around with nothing to do, and 4 brewery staff hanging out at one side of the bar, bottle-sharing and drinking for free.  There was me and one other person at the bar.

Supposed to be a food truck there tonight from 4-8.  It's a weekly event, and they posted on FB about it this afternoon.  No food truck in sight.  No sign saying they weren't coming.  I see now that they posted to FB about 5:30 that it wasn't coming, but I was already home by then.

On the plus side, I was able to grab a couple of 4-packs of Chile Gordo from the cooler ... haven't seen that beer at the store for more than a year.  But, holy cow, did they jack up the price on it.  $14 for a 4 pack, and it was $7 for a 10 oz. pour at the tap room.
