Author Topic: Prague-Berlin-Amsterdam (Read 2490 times)

Going to these cities in approximately 3 weeks. 3 nights in Prague, 4 nights in Berlin, 4 nights in Amsterdam. Heading over with a friend of mine, and there may be 2 more friends joining us in Amsterdam. Flying into Prague arriving 7/29, train to Berlin on 8/2, train to Amsterdam on 8/6, and flying home on Monday 8/10.

We have virtually no plans, at this point. We are staying right in the city centers of Prague and Amsterdam and are staying in the Kreuzberg section of Berlin. Berlin seems to be a lot more wide open/spread out than the other two cities.

The only specific plan is to try to catch a soccer game in Prague on Saturday 8/1.

Need recommendations on good bars, good sights, whatever. Specifically looking for beer recommendations if you folks know of any. I have seen Furley's Berlin comments in Allie's thread but didn't want to hijack it. TIA, will answer yours.

Berghain in Berlin if you're looking for a crazy techno club

Cafe De Dokter in Amsterdam for a century time warp.

Prague's hottest club is: Pepperfingers
It's got it all... Peppers, fingers, midgets, clown cars, Cosby sweaters

I'm a big fan of t'arendsnest in amsterdam. They only serve beer/liquors made in the netherlands. Have something like 30 taps, >100 bottles. Very knowledgeable staff. I think they have small plates of cheeses and sausages but not much more in the way of food.

The 3 biggest museum attractions are rijksmuseum, van gogh and the anne frank house and all are worth visiting if you have a few hours each day. I most enjoyed the van gogh museum.

Oh, you'll also want to get 48h passes for the trams and etc. I think you can buy them at the airport but there's also GVB office right across from centraal station when you head out into the city. Makes it very easy to get around

In 't Aepjen is another good one for atmosphere.

or take a paddle boat through the canals - super fun and if you get lost walking all the way across the city to wherever you are staying is no big deal.

Some of the stuff on our very loosely planned itinerary as of now:

- AC Sparta Prague vs. FC Banik Ostrava on Saturday afternoon
- Wandering around Prague, Charles Bridge, Jewish Quarter, other stuff
- Lots of dirt cheap unfiltered beer at "tankovnas"
- Church of Our Lady Victorious - Holy Child of Prague to see the Infant of Prague
- Saints Cyril and Methodius Cathedral, site of a famous WW2 operation

- lots of beer gardens in Berlin
- Checkpoint Charlie
- Brandenburg Gate
- Sachshausen concentration camp

- Van Gogh museum
- Probably the Rijksmuseum
- Not much else planned for Amsterdam yet

Leidseplein is a pretty touristy spot in Amsterdam but I enjoyed it for a bit.Good people watching. I forget the name of it but there's a big sports bar type place where everyone was watchimg matches and some clubs and etc. I had pints and apps at the heneiken restaurant.

no idea. i think i was trying to find a place that showed NCAA football games and ended up over that way. I wandered around that area for a while and then had enough of the touristy thing and went back closer to my hotel in the museum district. I think i ended up ~~passing out~~ falling asleep watching a crappy stream of Ohio St./Penn St in my room.

Might sound a bit

, but consider getting the audio tours. I felt like i got way more out of it than just strolling through with a map/guidebook or whatever. i think there were a couple different choices for both van gogh and rijksmuseum.
