I've got a 12-inch shoot, a 6-inch shoot and one that is just sprouting.

About a week after you sent to me.  Late March, I think.

I need a trellis - any suggestions?

I live in a townhouse, and have a 3rd year Mt. Hood that is awfully close to my neighbor's deck. I am considering making a PVC "T" and running some rope from it, as I have crudely diagrammed below.

Do you have any thoughts, comments, or suggestions?

The "T" seems to be going over your neighbor's deck. Are they fine with this?

I wouldn't go over her deck - and I guess I could make an "L" if I had too.

Will it be tall enough? Is PVC strong enough?  I should just Clorox that thing and put it out of it's misery, right

I would not doing the burning cross you drew there. . might send of the wrong message.

I would not use pvc. For one it is ugly and will not be sturdy against strong wind. There was plans for a home made hop trellis in BYO last year than was good. He used SS pipe that he painted.

How about a 3x life-size disc golf basket?

You could whip that up in an afternoon ...

I made my trellis out of 2" PVC.  It has 2-posts and while it will sway some in the wind, I think it will work fine (we had some pretty severe winds with the storms that brought the flooding and there were no problems, we'll see how it works when it is loaded with vines).  I painted it with spray paint for plastic (Fusion ro something like that).  I went with PVC partly because of the price and partly because it is easy to work with.  SS pipe would be nice, but it would also be expensive and difficult to paint.

You cansee it in the background in this pic:

I checked out some 1.5" pvc last night - it is pretty flimsy.  1.5" plastic conduit seemed a little bit more rigid.  I may give that a shot.

That is certainly understandable.

Why don't you run them horizantally on your deck?  They may not produce as well as a vertical trellis, but I'm sure they will grow fine.

I'm running mine on a horizontal 4x8 piece of weather-treated lattice.  I think I will have to spend a little more time training the vines, but I'm happy with it (for now).

I see those cute, little hop vines!

  ;)

In a year, that won't be enough lattice. I have a metal fence about that size between the house and garage, and it's already completely covered in hop vines that are nearly as thick as a pencil. They're headed up some rope toward the top of the garage. Growing at a rate of ... 4-5 inches a day.

I was gonna grow mine up and over a section of the patio.  Don't think it'll be thick enough to provide enough shade though.

I already have designs in my head to add another 12 feet of lattice to the left, train them on my fencing, then an arbor, then more fencing.  If I can get these fuckers to go about 100 lateral feet, I'll never have to look at the shitty yard next to me.

Planting bamboo is a great neighbor blocker as well.  It's worked wonders at my parents house.  I'm thinking of bringing some to mine.

We're trying to find Black Bamboo at a reasonable price.

is that a perennial?  Are there types of bamboo that go dormant in the winter?

Yes, and I would assume that they go dormant.  However, you have to be in the right zone for them to come back again the next year.  Please to consult your local zone map.

My two willamettes and one of my cascades are growing great.  The other cascade has struggled since I put it in the ground.  One of the willamettes is nearly 4' up the twine.

Beautiful Church!!  What denomination?

If I had to guess, I'd say Greek Orthodox.

The one where they all get together and pray to an imaginary deity(ies)....oh, wait.... ;D
