Fast forward to Wednesday, crews knocked down what was left of the building.
Dick Vintigers, who is from Iowa, usually stops at the restaurant when in Door County.
But Wednesday, he was surprised at what he saw, "We were coming down 42, and said what's going on here, they're tearing up this place?"
Bystanders also stopped to take a photo as the building was reduced to rubble.
"Very first thing this morning, we started the tear down, and got some of the equipment out," said Beth Levendusky, Marketing Director for Shipwrecked.
She says it hasn't been an easy process, "The first floor which was untouched by the fire, that has to be the most difficult to tear down."
Levendusky says the just around 20,000 square-foot building will take a day to tear down.
She says once it is complete, they're jumping right into rebuilding, "The plan, the hope is, to be open by summer 2018."
Levendusky says with the old building going away, they're also losing a piece of history.
She explained Shipwrecked was believed to have been a hide out for notorious gangster, Al Capone, "The door, it's rumored to be one of Al Capone's tunnels, for rum running basically."
But she says, some things won't change, "We believe the ghosts are going to be back."
As for Vintigers, he says he'll be back next summer, in hopes that the renovations are complete, "We enjoyed it."
The cost to rebuild is expected to be around $1 million.
