I say that it is very delicious, but I just wouldn't go out of my way to get it anymore. I was lucky enough to get almost two pints worth a couple Great Taste's ago.

Green Flash barleywine aged 4 years in brandy barrels  :excited:

Am I the only one that thinks that long in a barrel is too long?  I usually want barrel use to enhance the flavor, not to dominate the flavor.

Thick toffee aromatics exude with dense layers of fig, molasses, caramel, and a medley of dark fruits. Sweet flavors of toffee and caramel mingle with the warming spice of vanilla, sherry-like notes, and brandy barrel oak tannin. When served above 55 degrees Fahrenheit (highly recommended) more dark fruits like plum, date, raisin, and fig are further revealed.

That sounds real sexy to me.

Well, I'm one of those people who thinks that Green Flash Barleywine needs three years to condition anyway, so I would probably do nasty things to it.

I remember being blown away by it on draft back before they came up with the name Black Note, in 07-08 maybe?  Then had it on draft again a year later (still before the name) and wasn't nearly as impressed by it.  Not sure if my palate changed or the beer or both.   Either way, I'm not that upset that I won't be getting any.

That would take furley at least a week to get through, which leads me to ask, "Furleigh, why are you buying growlers that you can't drink in a session and then aging them?"

Had a Cane and Ebel last night for the first time in months.  Forgot how much I like this beer.  I'll be picking more of this up now that Red's Rye will no longer be bottled year round.
i'm not good at putting this stuff in words but i can't see myself with anyone else except maybe urbanhack.

Check out the Beer Temple, he sends back any old product and puts a received date on the beer so you know exactly how old it is.

the initial idea was to send it to someone as a surprise sniper.  then i thought i'd save it for when the GB/Valley folks got together.  after those things didn't happen for a while, i figured i'd bring it with me to the Taste ticket sales and share on line.. but at 6-7 AM this seemed a bad idea.

then i forgot about it.

and here we are a year later

DRAFT BETTER THAN CANS/BOTTLES DOWN?

also, you buy growlers from Titletown.  not that it's available in cans or bottles but... surely there are much better beers out there for the same price.

I have had a growler that was over a year old and it was still fine.  Granted, it was filled by Charleston Beer Exchange and not someone who had no clue what they were doing (not saying that is the case with yours since I do not know).  They sanitize, bottom fill with tube, and cap on foam.  So there is no issue with oxygen being in the beer.  Only thing they could possibly do better is a CO2 purge or use a beer gun instead of a tap with a tube.

What are you looking for? Maine Beer Company (Peeper, Lunch, Zoe, Titus, Tom); Rising Tide Brewing, Sebago, Bull Jagger, Sea Dog

There are some real cool small breweries but might be growler/draft only - Oxbow and Marshall Wharf

These guys are doing some great stuff too (mainly Kombucha and Cider), they are Urban Farm Fermentory.
- UFF Culture -

Founded in March 2010 by entrepeneur Eli Cayer, a Mainer himself, the Urban Farm Fermentory (or UFF) is an experimental fermentation center. We source as many local ingredients as possible in an attempt to highlight and preserve Maine's unique terroir. Our array of fresh pressed Maine apple cider is spontaneously (or wild) fermented in a Farmhouse style until it's bone dry & tart. "Spontaneous fermentation" utilizes naturally-occurring yeast in the air and on the fruit, which means even the yeast culture in our cider is local. Our mead, made with raw Maine honey, has a similarly unique flavor: drier and crisper than many versions. And our potent, probiotic Kombucha (fermented tea), with its 1.5% ABV and tart, acidic bite, is one of the few true examples of the form left after the infamous kombucha crackdown of 2011. For more information on our assorted products, please visit the PRODUCTS page, which is currently under development.

Only thing they could possibly do better is a CO2 purge or use a beer gun instead of a tap with a tube.

filled at O'so by the owner. i hope he knew what he was doing but who knows. it was filled with a tube, that much i remember.

also, it was something ridiculous like $13 bucks

wait...so you kept this for a year?

i'm not good at putting this stuff in words but i can't see myself with anyone else except maybe urbanhack.
