Waaaaay too old for that kind of volume here. Unless a bunch of them were 1-2 oz samples.

4 oz., mostly test flights from new breweries around Iowa and IL. Choose your own brewventure style
Plenty of "full beers" too though, brought a lot of stuff home.

This weekend I pulled out a 5L mini keg of Gulden Draak for a Halloween party. Was so happy that I we got through it. Obviously biased, but I loved it out of the keg more so than bottles (also, haven't drank the beer in a long time). Now I can buy another mini keg of a Belgian  ;D

I thought I posted when I bought it but can't find it. It was a bit before pandemic. Since it was the first time I had seen a Belgian in a mini keg, I had to buy it.  For the longest, I was worried I'd never get to drink it.  That is a lot of beer and I had few situations to pop it.  However, it went at this party.

Since then I have seen other Belgians in mini kegs. Like this
https://belgiuminabox.com/shop/613-beer-kegs

I'd buy DT or GD again. Doubt I'd do an ABInbev product.

After housing that minikeg, you will either have the camera dissembled and used as a cereal topping or become Ansel Adams incarnate.  No middle ground.

Went to the Baltimore Craft Brewers fest yesterday. It was all MD breweries but not all the MD breweries. All the pinkies-in-the-air breweries are too good for it.

- I was able to find 2 non-adjunct imperial stouts.
- I had my first pumpkin beer of the season. Almost made it all year. But it was actually good and not too pumpkiny
- the only beer that really stood out was a beer-wine hybrid. This has come up before on TBS but it was my first taste. They had a rose and a cab. I talked to the brewer and the rose was not a first batch and you could tell. Very well done. The cab was a first batch and you could tell.

I bought a 4-pack of the rum barrel aged cocoa stout from Black Flag.  It was nigh upon undrinkable.  Completely overpowered by rum and beetus.

"Catharina Sour"?

Sounds like "Florida Weisse 2.0"... they're all just Fruited Kettle Sours. BJCP and Ratebeer list this as an actual style.  Apparently it was named a few years ago, but i've never heard of it until now. Seems kind of silly to take credit for Fruited Kettle Sours, which have been proliferating for years now.

BJCP likely added it (and it's still in the "experimental" styles - thus the "X") because it started gaining popularity and didn't really fit in any of the established sour categories for competition judging.  Doesn't have the funk for a Lambic or American Wild, and is considerably higher ABV than Berliner Weisse.

NEIPA entered the guidelines the same way - it didn't exist in the 2015 edition under "Specialty IPA" but they've added it since and it will be in the next official release.

It mainly matters for homebrew competitions, to establish standards for judges to compare against beyond "dis beer taste gud"

I see. Maybe it's not as relevant to the commercial market then. It seems that it was submitted to BJCP by one or two brewers in Brazil, meanwhile every hype brewery in the US has been doing the exact same thing but didn't have an accurate descriptive name for it beyond "fruited kettle sour" (Florida weisse/Midwest fruit tart/Fruited Gose/Fruited Berliner/etc).

Seems odd to refer to it with an obscure regional name when it's now become a broader, more globally produced style (US/UK/DK/SE). If the name was adopted under the "fruited kettle sour" non-wild umbrella, that's fine, but to apply that name to everything in the category seems backward to me.

I remember this coming up on RB a few years ago. I agree that this is just kettle sour (or fruited Berliner if done traditionally).

But people like to make up new styles and think they are doing something different.

“The beer is good for those who are less than craft beer enthusiast. (Full of bubble gum flavor, but lacks the progressive beer enthusiast flavors)”

I think we have a new Sammyisms contender.

"goose fat. motor oil. wrench left overnight. light and moderate for a geuze. chicken shmaltz. definately chicken soup. worth a share. muanced blend.amz bottle.
2011 blend pretty smooth dome tongue tingler."

^actual Sammy review of HORAL Megablend

Quote
pretty smooth dome tongue tingler

Continuing the theme of quirky beer reviews...

I've been reading the same malapropisms by this reviewer for years, but today I saw a new one. This is not verbatim, to keep it anonymous. :ninja:

Instead of saying "notes of various fruits" they write "nodes of variegated fruits".

So there are striped-leaf fruits at intersecting points in your beer? Is this purely autocorrect laziness or some kind of literary mental illness?

Another weird one I keep seeing on BA. In nearly every review, this guy describes mouthfeel as "flemmy". First, that's not even a word, but "phlegmy"? WTF. Gross dude. :-X

"Tastes of wet sand, dry, matured hops and alcohol soaked wine grapes among soothing cream cheese and a fistful of dusty sawdust."

 :-X

Sand, cream cheese, and sawdust!? Maybe "dry" and "lactic" are the words they were looking for?

Another weird one I keep seeing on BA. In nearly every review, this guy describes mouthfeel as "flemmy". First, that's not even a word, but "phlegmy"? WTF. Gross dude. :-X

"Phlegmy" seems like an apt descriptor for some of these milkshake IPAs, no?

Nope.  But a WI brewery using a palm tree on their logo immediately make me suspect.

I ended up drinking 9 times my body weight in beer, broke three glasses over my head, 7 over others, ordered up 17 hookers for a little afterparty, held a cabbie hostage while running his cab through the Madison capitol doors, and I grabbed gator's ass.

Stopped there while at Great Taste.  They did mostly trendy beer style, but the Helles was rock solid.

Oh, you have 10 different NEIPAs. Cool, bro.

I'll have the Helles.

“The beer is good for those who are less than craft beer enthusiast. (Full of bubble gum flavor, but lacks the progressive beer enthusiast flavors)”

I think we have a new Sammyisms contender.

"goose fat. motor oil. wrench left overnight. light and moderate for a geuze. chicken shmaltz. definately chicken soup. worth a share. muanced blend.amz bottle.
2011 blend pretty smooth dome tongue tingler."

"Tastes of wet sand, dry, matured hops and alcohol soaked wine grapes among soothing cream cheese and a fistful of dusty sawdust."

 :-X

Sand, cream cheese, and sawdust!? Maybe "dry" and "lactic" are the words they were looking for?

Using “wet” as a desriptor. Unless you’re drinking mercury, all liquid is “wet”.

Yeah well Coors Light is still the coldest tasting beer.  You can tell it tastes cold because the mountains turn blue.

I think that term means something more than the literal translation. I am curious.
