« on: October 01, 2012, 09:42:41 AM »
anyone been to this place?

guy at work went there for a wedding reception this weekend.  told me they had 30+ beers on tap ("things like Lakeside from Milwaukee and they even had Spotted Cow").

just checked their website and, holy shit:  http://sheboyganalehaus.com/

Devil Dancer
Fantome Hiver (only $12 for a bottle!)
CW BB Cherry
Ten Fidy
Old Rasputin
Gonzo

for this area.. that's got to be the best list i have seen.  shame that it's an hour from us but next time i'm in the area   :banned:

Yeah, the place is awesome. Not just for Sheboygan but a lot of areas. We had our Football drafts there.
It's what I was trying to get to at my old job but there was too much resistance from management. They regularily bring in firkins and host beer dinners.

Attention, Shebvegas (Sheboygan to the uninitiated): Our good friends Kurt and Randy at the 8th Street Ale Haus are rolling out the red carpet to us to start the new year, featuring CW as Beer of the Month all January! Look for special releases of rare beers on draft each Wednesday night, a nice lineup of our year round beers on tap, and what promises to be a great beer dinner on Wednesday, January 29th - featuring some very hard to find treats. Kicks off tonight with live music from Jim Stapley and a tapping of one of the only kegs of Space Ghost in Wisconsin! Be here or live the rest of your life in regret.
Hate this schtick

Thoughts?

fair enough.  nice space, well organized. good beer selection.  fries and cheese curds were great.  i got a schnitzel sandwich that was pretty much flavorless.  would try another option off the menu, though.  wife was happy with her portobello sandwich.

I like it but it tends to get loud.
Never tries the Schnitzel. Burgers are always good though.

it was fairly well empty when we were there. a handful of Badgers fans at the bar.. couple people at the tables on the non-bar side.

market looked pretty busy.  maybe that was keeping people out?

we also wound up at the ice cream joint by Blue Harbor.. fucking hell that was tasty

It is. I'll go on occasion with a wad of cash and practically clear out one of the Hmong tents.

wife wants to come back.  we were both intrigued by the mom & pop feel of the whole town.  didn't see a ton of chain stuff (at least where we were) just lots of small local businesses

that was my first ever trip in to Sheboygan proper. kinda surprised.

it was fairly well empty when we were there. a handful of Badgers fans at the bar.. couple people at the tables on the non-bar side.

market looked pretty busy.  maybe that was keeping people out?

we also wound up at the ice cream joint by Blue Harbor.. fucking hell that was tasty
Did you hit the Farmers market too? That's a pretty good one.

we were running late so didn't pop over but it looked pretty nice
It is. I'll go on occasion with a wad of cash and practically clear out one of the Hmong tents.

How much are Hmongs going for these days?

Oh, and Furley, don't let one visit to SheVegas fool ya. It's not quite a joyous trip down happy-go-lucky lane. As a matter of fact, I pretty much avoid this town. And, I graduated from high school from South. Very few reasons to go back for me.

Saturday afternoons downtown are pretty much as close to normal as Sheboygan gets.

What do you do with Hmong's after your wad is spent?  And are these the Hmong's you speak of?

Figure this is the best spot to put this. Taking a mini vaca mid may for our 10th anniversary and heading to catch a brewers game at miller park and then staying a few nights at a place along lake michigan near oostburg. Planning on eating at the cabin the whole time but want to head out for a nice anniversary meal on thursday night. Any recommendations for the area? Also looking for any other suggestions of things to do or see around there including a good place to pick up some beer. Thanks.

The American Club in Kohler has some nice dining options:  http://www.americanclubresort.com/lodging/the-american-club/dining-at-the-american-club?mboxSession=1421082023490-880001

I thought the Kohler Design Center was pretty interesting, if you're into that sort of stuff.    Woodlake Market has a decent beer selection (http://www.yelp.com/biz/woodlake-market-kohler-2), but JJ and others will probably chime in with some other options, as well.
