Garage Projects Death From Above & Pernicious Weed were the two they had that i passed on

Wicked Weed Pernicious is damn tasty.

Forbidden Root Night Moth

I actually liked this beer a lot, but didn't recognize which beer it was. This is a problem with the abstract art cans lately for me.
Really dig the Tony Fitzpatrick label art they're doing lately.

Passed up another Forbidden Root, "Toro!".
Didn't recognize it. Apparently this is a running theme. :sadbanana:

Also went to a dumpy out-of-the-way liquor store and tried to buy a random single of Polish beer.
Took them almost 10 minutes to figure out they never put it in the system. "Sorry, can't sell it".

You didn't miss anything with Toro, easily Forbidden Root's weakest canned offering. An 11% hazy IPA that drinks like boozy pineapple juice.  I'm a big fan of their other haze bros, but that one is a miss.

Whew, thanks! Saw a bunch of high reviews and thought I missed the boat. Snoochies and that oaked one were good.

What was it at the brewery when it was released?

I'm not sure I would have passed it up

Same price I think, might still be at the brewery. Didn’t love it this year. :(

Increasingly, I walk into a store and think "wtf is all this shit".
It's to the point where once familiar local breweries are cranking out something new every other week, and new craft stuff crowds the shelves to critical mass. I'm all for choice, but gone are the days where you go to buy some Two Hearted or *insert reliable beer here* and it's right in the same spot it always is. God forbid you want to drink the same thing twice.

the tyranny of choice

i look first at breweries i know to see if they have what i like in stock, or if a new seasonal i like is out. if nothing strikes my fancy then i look to breweries i don't typically frequent for a style i like and buy that.

there are a million new options on shelves. too many to taste/sample/learn about it but

better to have more choice than less, i say

It just seems like the flavor of the week is encroaching on shelf space of imports, core craft, etc. When things become completely unrecognizable at such a fast rate, it just doesn't seem sustainable. You can only play the $20/4-pk hazecan lottery so many times before you realize it ain't worth it. A consistent product is better than a new one. my $0.02 :bakes:

for sure the bottom is going to drop out eventually and we'll get back to a more reasonable variety. maybe not for a while, though.

As long as there's money to be made, there will always be something new on the shelf. It may slow down eventually, but there's a shift towards consumers that demand new products, which is more the unknown side of it.

I'm also not a fan of the "we never brew the same beer twice" model. Seems like a short-attention span approach.

that's a bit annoying, for sure. i get the innovation angle.. it's how we discover new things but.. a guy handed me a citrus shandy the other day and raved about the blueberry and cherry beers he'd bought from the same place.

i'm already stuck in my ways enough that i tend to return to what i know so these things miss me but i do hate when beers i love disappear in favor of garbage like this.

Same problem at bars.  Even at places with 30-50 taps, there are maybe 5-10 beers I even want to drink.  Not really interested in a "thai meatball and ginger IPA with hibiscus"  or 17 variants of the same pale ale.

Maybe eventually a "return to the classics" trend will happen, hopefully before they get forgotten entirely. It's fun to try new stuff, but 50% of the time it's a letdown.

I thought we were on this track when the lager breweries started popping up, evidently they can't keep pace with the trend of the week brewers.

Maybe eventually a "return to the classics" trend will happen, hopefully before they get forgotten entirely. It's fun to try new stuff, but 50% of the time it's a letdown.

:sadbanana:

I thought we were on this track when the lager breweries started popping up, evidently they can't keep pace with the trend of the week brewers.

Locally i've noticed more than a few lagers from brewers that do mainly other stuff, so there's hope.

Brown hefeweizens at Resi's. :-X Bartender had to drainpour a bunch of these, but then inexplicably served 2 of them to people in the biergarten.
"The owner will get mad at me for dumping out all these beers". Well the owner needs to do some inventory. If he thinks 2 years past code is ok that's :bs: :hot:

Whomever would serve (or offer for sale) a beer like that should be shot.

Yeah that was really depressing. The bartender really didn't know shit from shinola, but the owner should know better. I sure as hell won't order bottles there anymore.

Yes it is.  Hopefully it'll be easier to get other Shelton stuff too like De la Senne, Fantome, etc.
