Belgium mar 2013
« on: June 12, 2012, 07:32:20 AM »
http://beertrips.com/trips/zythos_beer_binge.htm

was looking at this and thinking about doing a few weeks (2 and a half in belgium, with a railpass so i could randomly bounce)

antwerp is a must as it's the home of great beer and graf.

was going to do cantillon post the trip as well, have a connection there, so not too bad.

if any of you could think that far ahead, and want to go...

but this is another suggestion thread... and country jumping for beer and stuff... might wanna go to andechs, :)
i do love horrible things but i don't think i'm down for france this trip.

if you go i would definitely suggest making the side trip to beersel.  it's like an afternoon trip but well worth it for beer and pretty scenery.

Actually part of the gang from around here including the two brewers from Straight to Ale are talking about going.  One of them (Dan Perry) has been twice already.  We may consider joining them, it was my idea to go several years ago, Dan went, but we couldn't make it happen.  Anyway, keep me posted, I might try to make it happen this time.

I've heard the countryside of the Payottenland is where it's at when you want an escape from the urban jungle (not that you'd want to ;) ). Reading Lambicland you get a feel for some of the small towns and cafes where time stood still, and how old timers never stopped drinking gueuze regularly. Some of them are becoming extinct sadly...

It has been a good while for me, but Moeder Lambic Fontainas was amazing.

Nice, staying about 5 min. from there
There's a place that does "Texas-style BBQ" in Brussels now, the guy was inspired by Franklin BBQ I guess. Might skip it though, not sure yet.

Here's a map I made that covers the general itinerary and options near where we'll be. Some places I added notes for, if you have time to browse around.
