Things are about to get even more interesting with one of the Midwest's finest breweries. Founders Brewing is set to release two new beers as well as start a brand new series of beers, each very different beers, but all are sure to please.
Founders Cerise has been around in slightly different forms for a little while. It's been on tap off and on at the brewery while they tweak the recipe. Up until now it has been called simply Cherry Ale. Founder describes Cerise like this..."You'll have a soft spot for this one. Using only fresh Michigan tart cherries, this beauty tantalizes with intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill Adding fresh cherries at five separate stages of fermentation achieves the ultimate balance between tartness and bitterness." This beer will typically be available April through August and will weigh in at 6.5% alcohol by volume. The beer is very similar to Rubaeus, but with cherries put in the place of raspberries. With the current price of raspberries, it's no surprise to move to this beer instead of pricing Rubaeus out of the range that most are willing to pay. The first four packs of Cerise should be out soon and are expected to retail at around $9.99.
On the other end of the spectrum from a fruit beer, we have Double Trouble. This Imperial IPA, weighing in at 9.4% ABV and 86 IBUs, has also been on tap at the brewery. I've heard people talking like this might be the best beer that Founders has brewed, which is saying a lot. "An Imperial IPA that was brewed to turn your world upside down. Hops have got you coming and going. Pungent aromatics up front paired with a malt balance backbone and a smooth bitter finish." Double Trouble will have a large window of availability, June through March, so you should have no problem getting your hop fix in.
This leads us to Nemesis, which isn't so much a beer as it is a series of beers. From Founders, "What you have here is a rarity. A special release brewed only once. Ever changing, always satisfying. You never know what you're going to get. But you can be damn sure that it will be mighty tasty." This will be released December of each year. Too bad December just passed.
