NYC or Bust
Posted Friday, July 16th, 2010 by Pols

So I'm on my way to NYC for a mini honeymoon and then heading up to Albany and Saratoga Springs to be the best man at a friends wedding on July 23rd. I have no speech written, our first flight has been delayed 50 minutes, and forgot my wedding ring on the counter. Not a bad start to the trip. I'm looking forward to NYC. Rattle 'N Hum and the Ginger Man are within a few blocks of our hotel. We have a tour booked with on Saturday morning and tickets to the Yankees/Rays game on Sunday afternoon. Monday and Tuesday are pretty wide open, if you want to PM me any suggestions. Wedesday we catch the Amtrak from Penn Station to Albany. Wedesday afternoon/evening is a cornhole with Bakes @ The Pump Station and Brown's Brewing. Friday is the wedding and Sunday we fly home. I'll post more as the trip progresses Cheers!

A picture's worth a thousand words

As you can see by the above picture, I didn't stand a chance.  I was born into my profession.  Being a lumberjack isn't something that a high school guidance counsellor advises you to become when you graduate, or something many kids aspire to do.  But, looking at the look of pure joy on my face, it's something I was destined for.

I've been running around in the mountains and forest for as long as I can remember.  Hell, the first thing I learned how to drive was a bulldozer.  Weekends were spent being hauled around by Pops up logging roads or out at our small sawmill.  The days are long, and the work is dirty.  Sitting in the back of a crewcab snuggled between 2 guys who are easily 300+ lbs for 2 hours to and from work will make anyone claustrophobic.  Waist deep snow in the winter, mud up to your knees in the spring. Fires and ridiculously large bugs in the summer.  Meeting a loaded logging truck on a snowy road that's only wide enough for 1 vehicle and has a bank on one side, and a cliff on the other, will pucker your asshole faster than Furley can chug a Mt. Dew.  Not paying attention to what you're doing?  Well, you could easily lose a finger (just ask my old man about that), and that's if you're lucky.  I can count on one hand the number of "sick days" I've had the luxury of taking in the last 10 years.

But, when this is the view from your "office", it's tough to want it any other way.

So... Uhh... How's it goin', eh?

"I gotta talk... I gotta tell what I feel... I gotta talk about my life, as I see it."

Well, I've finally gotten around to starting this piece of shit that I will refer to as my "blog". Hopefully, it will eventually morph into something that's borderline respectable. But until then, just sit back and watch the train wreck that occurs when a lumber jack tries to use the creative writing skills he learnt 11 years ago. :deadbanana:
