| Dortmunder or Export Lager is a pale lager that originated in Dortmund, Germany. This is a lighter pilsener style that became popular beginning in 1873 in the industrial town of its origin. Due to the popularity of this style, Dortmund became one of the earliest brewing centers in Germany. The color should be pale yellow to a slightly deep golden. The aroma should have minimal hop notes, but they should at least be present. Also a malty sweetness should be quite notable. The taste should follow the aroma, with sweet malts very prominent and low to medium hop bitterness. The feel should be medium bodied. ABV should range from 5% to 6%. IBUs should be from 20 to 30. |
