Style Information |
The American Double (or Imperial) Red Ale is the "bigger brother" of the Red (or Amber) Ale. The style should have an unmistakeable ruby red color. The aroma should have the expected strong malt profile with toasted notes, light fruity esters and semi-sweet notes of toffee. Also, this malt profile is balanced by a notable hop character. The style should also have a higher alcohol content, which is usually notable in both aroma and taste. The taste follows the aroma, with malts notable up front. However, you should notice more of the hop characteristics quickly, with citrus and pine and a strong hop bitterness. |
